This is a tape of CASEVision, the SiliconGraphics IDE. Back of the box: "CASEVision™ is the only integrated software development environment that helps you manage complex development problems through visualization and advanced technology." The tape mainly focuses on the CASEVision IDE, but the first 5 minutes are also a Silicon Graphics demo reel, showing off assorted renders made on their systems.

The exact same brick texture is in dozens of Nintendo 64 and PlayStation games. From Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, and Final Fantasy 7, to Turok, Conker, and Mortal Kombat 3. "cobble_stone" is the most overused game graphic you never noticed. Why were competing studios sharing the same graphics? 'Texture Archaeology' gives us the answer. The cartoonish, magical imagery from your childhood is a lot more realistic than you once thought. Twitter: https://twitter.com/KidLeavesStoop...

These were the internal SGI Indy technical documents scanned for the Linux MIPS project in 2004. From what I know these are some of the few, if not the only SGI hardware technical documents out there as the rest were shredded after the Rackable takeover IIRC. I'm mirroring these here as the rest are on the Linux MIPS FTP, and as big tech companies like Mozilla and Google know what's best for you they've disabled FTP in newer web browsers.

The PsiTech RAD4 series (including the RAD4C-KM) was an alternate graphics output device for Silicon Graphics workstations. This owner's guide was found in the box of a RAD4C-KM device, but is written to be generic across the entire RAD4 line. It also states that it is version 1.3, but other versions are unknown.

Today i saw the 3D logo of SGI.. so i thought to print this one for me... just to tweak the apparence of my pc and remember the glorious workstations made by Silicon Graphics. I remember how inaccessibile was these workstations.. but in the years i owned two. The Indy and the O2. I'll printing it with raft, without supports, with a filament change after 4 layers by hands. Feel free to use the last image as desktop background... made by me with Cinema4D.

Pulled the geometry from an Irix demo, converted it with some home-brewed magic, and fixed the mesh. Printed great on a MakerBot Replicator 2 in PLA with 2 shells, supports. YMMV Have fun! I don't own the copyright to this logo, but as far as I can tell it hasn't been used in over a decade. If this is incorrect, please contact me! I've wanted a 3D SGI logo forever, now you can have one too. Update: including pre-sliced X3G file for Replicator 2 printers. Takes about 8 hours to print. Cube is...

Sometimes an inventor designs a device for a specific purpose. Sometimes it's to try something new. But successful inventions often shape industries beyond those they initially intended. Dr. Marc Hannah built an invention with far bigger effects than anyone could have imagined-like bringing dinosaurs to life, building liquid robots, and letting the Titanic set sail one more time. Raqi Syed gives some context on the evolution of special effects in the movie industry. Mark Grossman explains how...

This is a basic version of the SGI Octane hdd drive sled/caddy. It does not have the locking mechanism or the electromagnetic shielding, but works better than the common "pair of floppies." The front looks similar to the original, but is not exact. The rails are exact. They are meant to be used with rubber vibration mounts.

To use them, install Windows 2000 (I had the best luck with SP4) as you normally would on the SGI 320/540, install the SSK first, then install the other two drivers.

More and more High Performance Embedded Computing (HPEC) leverages technology from commercial high performance computing systems. To date, HPEC has only tapped the lower end of commercial high performance computing technology. As more of the advanced commercial technology moves into the embedded space, this presents a unique opportunity to change the fundamentals of how HPEC solutions are addressed. Within HPEC, two types of application specific processing elements -- reconfigurable and custom...

High performance embedded computing (HPEC) has traditionally been performed by systems designed specifically for the task. Recent years have seen the increasing application of general-purpose high performance computing (HPC) systems in embedded applications. General purpose HPC systems typically have a large user base which results in broad application SW and device driver availability, robust development and debugging tools, and revenue streams which support significant R&D funding of...

Much embedded real-time computing is done with operating systems crafted from the ground up specifically for the task. In larger systems and more recently, general-purpose operating systems such as SGI IRIX and Linux are used for new projects because they already have multiprocessor and device driver support as well a large user base. Work can and has been done to improve their real-time capabilities, for example IRIX has been improved over the years to offer a number of hard real-time response...
