"I hope you realise, we're all naive cats." For Lukas Nystrand, themes of hope, faith, and belief frame the artistic field-of-view. And for the past couple of years, guided by these ideas and healthy imaginations of a better place, the notion of a new destination for all good hearts has emerged -- one inhabited by feline angels, a place known as Katthimmel, or Cat Heaven. For Lukas and fellow instrumentalist Karl Johansson, the Katthimmel EP is a resounding message of faith in such a...

The first encounter of radical turntablist Martin Tétreault with the Napalm Jazz posse turned into an alcoholic mayhem of scratches, digital noise, drunken rap and obvious borrowings from Prince, Black Sabbath, Slayer and many many more... Live at Montreal's Casa del Popolo, December 2001.

Sam Shalabi brought an unsuspected mood to the night, using mostly electronics. Philémon's use of an amplified metal box, added to A_dontigny's distorted cd skipping and Érick Dorion's signature audiomulch cataclysm, blended Shalabi's melancholic bleeps to form a dense and warm tapestry of noise. Live at the Casa del Popolo, April 2002.

A bit closer to home (Belgium), Hans De Ley creates some very unusual abstract soundscapes, using only his voice and a seemingly limitless arsenal of DSP algorithms. The result is more than just a monotone array of singing chimpansees, and proves that the voice's range can outperform many a synth. The immense spectrum of sounds accessed through this method clearly offers a lot of possiblities, which Hans puts to use without ever repeating himself. The 6 tracks in question are enormous continual...

VZL was a one off live in the studio collaboration between V., Zanstones and Lampshade. Each person was supposed to create their own mix of the session, resulting in four different interpretations. Only two were completed. This is the Zanstones mix, which is pretty close to a linear interpretation-the jam as it happened. Compare it with the JRX version which is a radical deconstruction of the material.

All the stuff for this CD was recorded in a live session at Agenciare on 7-12-02. In this second album on Fronha, Mongha brings you 13 intrumental tracks, in a much more experimental vein than their previous work "Picnic Synthia". Minimal distorted grooves with lots of analog and virtual synth noises.

VZL was a one-off live studio collaboration between v., Zan Hoffman and Lampshade. Instead of releasing one mix of the recording, it was decided that each participant would do their own mix, creating 4 separate interpretations. Only the first 2 mixes were ever completed. This is the second version, a radical deconstruction of the material by Jeff Surak (v.). The instruments were bass guitar, drums, home instruments, type writer, toaster, and sampler.

Electronic improvisation with guitars and percussion. Second release by the cunt (she shortened her name somewhat for the occasion). This is a 30-minutes-long live recording of the 2004-09-11 concert at the LEM festival in Barcelona. It features a 40-seconds rock'n'roll (you know, guitars & drums) intro which is among my favorite Hazard Records fragments to sample.
