If you experience any technical difficulties with this video or would like to make an accessibility-related request, please send a message to digicomm@uchicago.edu. Divinity School Professors Margaret M. Mitchell, Wendy Doniger, Richard Rosengarten, Jas Elsner, Dan Arnold, Kevin Hector, and Sarah Hammerschlag speak on “Introducing Religion.” One of the most difficult, yet most important, tasks for the scholar of religion is thinking about how to teach the college-level introductory course...
Should a believer study the false religions? David says that he will not even speak the names of the false gods. When I focus on Jesus, then He will be whats real.

As we surrender in our spiritual journey and relationships God is honored. The focus of all of our relationships should be in loving and caring for each other’s spirit.

The mercy and grace offered to us is not just a transactional moment in time, it is also a catalytic start on a transformational journey in the process of being sanctified. Going deep with God through the process of surrender and being filled with His Spirit opens us up to a whole realm that cannot be experienced if we remain in the safe shallows of spiritual existence.

The early church grew exponentially because of the unequaled release of energy when the Holy Spirit came. The people were “cut to the heart” as they inhaled the spirit. They saw the reality of the power of Christ, they witnessed the truth, and experienced the sacrificial love of Christ. The invitation from that time and today is not to “get saved,” but to follow Christ.

The spiritual journey includes being cut to the heart, filled with his Spirit and then sent to be presenters and proclaimers to the least, last and lost. On the journey we inhale His grace and presence and exhale those very things to the world.
