These notes provide a quick introduction to the Coq system and show how it can be used to define logical concepts and functions and reason about them. It is designed as a tutorial, so that readers can quickly start their own experiments, learning only a few of the capabilities of the system. A much more comprehensive study is provided in [1], which also provides an extensive collection of exercises to train on.

LUNASKA (Lunar UHE Neutrino Astrophysics with the Square Kilometre Array) is a theoretical and experimental project developing the lunar Cherenkov technique for the next generation of giant radio-telescope arrays. Here we report on a series of observations with ATCA (the Australia Telescope Compact Array). Our current observations use three of the six 22m ATCA antennas with a 600 MHz bandwidth at 1.2-1.8 GHz, analogue dedispersion filters to correct for the typical night-time ionospheric...

The sign of the Boer-Mulders function $h_1^\perp$ is related to the sign of the GPD $\bar{E}_T$ through the mechanism of chromodynamic lensing. Model calculations of the sign of $\bar{E}_T$ indicate that the sign of $h_1^\perp$ may be the same in all ground state hadrons.

The detection in 10 bursts of an optical counterpart emission (i.e. during the prompt GRB phase) that is 10-10000 brighter than the extrapolation of the burst spectrum to optical frequencies suggests a synchrotron self-Compton origin for the GRB emission, synchrotron producing the optical counterpart emission. In this model, the second upscattering of the burst photons yields a prompt GeV-TeV emission, whose brightness depends strongly on an unknown quantity, the peak energy of the primary...

We examine the superfluid phase of a hard-core boson model with nearest-neighbor exchange J and four-particle ring-exchange K at half-filling on the square lattice. At zero temperature we find that the superfluid in the pure-J model is quickly destroyed by the inclusion of negative-K ring-exchange interactions, favoring a state with a (pi,pi) ordering wavevector. Minimization of the mean-field energy suggests that a supersolid state with coexisting superfluidity, charge-density wave, and...

We present an overview of strong correlations in single-wall carbon nanotubes, and an introduction to the techniques used to study them theoretically. We concentrate on zigzag nanotubes, although universality dictates that much ofthe theory can also be applied to armchair or chiral nanotubes. We show how interaction effects lead to exotic low energy properties and discuss future directions for studies on correlation effects in nanotubes.

This is something really special indeed! We’re actually not at law to disclose any information about the artist (at his request); the only thing that can be made public is that these tracks were recorded in 2006 by one and the same person. It was he who described these recordings as primitive, but we at Okkulth disagree: these are absolutely beautiful soundscapes indeed! The mood is different, thus justifying this as a split release, rather than a retrospective or what have you....

Artists embody a diverse set of talents and interests. This gives them a rich array of experiences to draw upon in their work. In the same way, Richard Ward brings an eclectic background and collection of interests to his efforts at Microsoft. While most Windows developers are focusing on the next version of Windows, Richard and his team are already hard at work on the version which will follow. In...

I will review heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory for the nucleon delta degrees of freedom and then examine the recent dynamical lattice calculations of the nucleon mass from the BMW, ETM, JLQCD, LHP, MILC, NPLQCD, PACS-CS, QCDSF/UKQCD and RBC/UKQCD Collaborations. Performing the chiral extrapolations of these results, one finds remarkable agreement with the physical nucleon mass, from each lattice data set. However, a careful examination of the lattice data and the resulting extrapolation...

We investigate the idea of the Higgs doublet as a pseudo-Goldstone boson in perturbative extensions of the Standard Model, motivated by the desire to ameliorate its hierarchy problem without conflict with the electroweak precision data. Two realistic supersymmetric models with global SU(3) symmetry are proposed, one for large and another for small values of tan\beta. The two models demonstrate two different mechanisms for EWSB and the Higgs mass generation. Their experimental signatures are...

We investigate effects of pseudo-spin population imbalance on Mott phases in 1D trapped two-component atomic Fermi gases loaded on optical lattices based on the repulsive Hubbard model in harmonic traps. By using the density matrix renormalization group method, we numerically calculate density profiles of each component and clarify the pseudo-spin magnetism. Consequently, we find that all the features from weakly imbalance to fully polarized cases are well described by S=1/2 antiferromagnetic...

We discuss ground-state projector simulations of a modified two-dimensional S=1/2 Heisenberg model in the valence bonds basis. Tuning matrix elements corresponding to the diagonal and off-diagonal terms in the quantum dimer model, we show that there is a quantum phase transition from the antiferromagnet into a columnar valence-bond-solid (VBS). There are no signs of discontinuities, suggesting a continuous or very weakly first-order transition. The Z4-symmetric VBS order parameter exhibits an...

This paper presents a study of the characterization of the singular manifold of the six-degree-of-freedom parallel manipulator commonly known as the Stewart platform. We consider a platform with base vertices in a circle and for which the bottom and top plates are related by a rotation and a contraction. It is shown that in this case the platform is always in a singular configuration and that the singular manifold can be parameterized by a scalar parameter.

We show that, due to the high optical depth of the intergalactic medium to Lyman-alpha photons before the Epoch of Reionization, the Lyman-alpha scattering rate responsible for the Wouthuysen-Field effect from an isolated source will be negligible unless (1) there is sufficient time for the scattering photons to establish a steady state, or (2) the scattering gas is undergoing internal expansion or has a peculiar motion of tens to hundreds of km/s away from the source. We present steady-state...

Several types of variable stars are found along the HR diagram whose pulsations are driven by the $\kappa$-mechanism. Given their nature, the precise ($T_{\rm eff}-L$) domain where these pulsators are located is highly dependent on the value of opacity and on its variation inside the star. We analyze the sensitivity of opacity driven pulsators of spectral-type A and B ($\delta$ Scuti, $\beta$ Cephei and SPB stars) to the opacity tables (OP/OPAL) and to the chemical composition of the stellar...

Quantum Accelerator Modes were discovered in experiments with Kicked Cold Atoms in the presence of gravity. They were shown to be tightly related to resonances of the Quantum Kicked Rotor. In this paper a spinor formalism is developed for the analysis of Modes associatedwith resonances of arbitrary order q>1. Decoupling of spin variables from orbital ones is achieved by means of an ansatz of the Born-Oppenheimer type, that generates q independent band dynamics. Each of these is described, in...
