We set up recursion relations for calculating all even moments of the end-to-end distance of a Porod-Kratky wormlike chains in $D$ dimensions. From these moments we derive a simple analytic expression for the end-to-end distribution in three dimensions valid for all peristence lengths. It is in excellent agreement with Monte Carlo data for stiff chains and goes properly over into the Gaussian random-walk distributions for low stiffness.

We study the effect of departures from SUSY GUT gaugino universality on the neutralino relic density, and both its direct and neutrino indirect detection. We find that the most interesting models are those with a value of $M_3|_{GUT}$ lower than the universal case.

Given an original distribution, its statistical and probabilistic attributs may be scanned by the associated escort distribution introduced by Beck and Schlogl and employed in the formulation of nonextensive statistical mechanics. Here, the geometric structure of the one-parameter family of the escort distributions is studied based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence and the relevant Fisher metric. It is shown that the Fisher metric is given in terms of the generalized bit-variance, which...

On May 11, 2003 a large low pressure system centered near Lake Michigan brought overcast conditions to much of the upper midwest. The cloud system is in the familiar shape of a comma with the head stretching form the low center to the northwest and its tail following along the cold front. The grayish haze just left of the bottom center of the image is smoke from fires burning in southern Mexico and Central America. Hypercomputation or super-Turing computation is a ``computation'' that transcends the limit imposed by Turing's model of computability. The field still faces some basic questions, technical (can we mathematically and/or physically build a hypercomputer?), cognitive (can hypercomputers realize the AI dream?), philosophical (is thinking more than computing?). The aim of this paper is to address the question: can we mathematically build a hypercomputer? We will discuss the solutions of the...

We present a model for the star formation process during the initial collapse of dark matter haloes at redshifts z=0-30. We derive a simple expression for the characteristic stellar mass scale during this initial burst of star formation. In our picture, this characteristic scale reflects both the minimum temperature to which the gas can cool (determined by the metallicity and the temperature of the cosmic microwave background) and the pressure of overlying baryons in the collapsing halo. This...

Within the framework of the Top-color-assisted Technicolor (TC2) model, we calculate the new physics contributions to the branching ratios $\calb(B_{s,d} \to \gamma \gamma)$ and CP violating asymmetries $\rcpm(B_{s,d} \to \gamma \gamma)$ in the QCD factorization based on the heavy-quark limit $m_b \gg \Lambda_{QCD}$. Using the considered parameter space, we find that (a) for both $B_s\to \gamma \gamma$ and $B_d \to \gamma \gamma$ decays, the new physics contribution can provide a factor of two...

We comment on the relation of our previous work on the classical gluodynamics of high energy nuclear collisions to recent work by Lappi (hep-ph/0303076). While our results for the non-perturbative number liberation coefficient agree, those for the energy disagree by a factor of 2. This discrepancy can be traced to an overall normalization error in our non-perturbative formula for the energy. When corrected for, all previous results are in excellent agreement with those of Lappi. The...

We propose an explanation for the recently measured slow fluctuations and ``blinking'' in the surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum of single molecules adsorbed on a silver colloidal particle. We suggest that these fluctuations may be related to the dynamic relaxation of the surface roughness on the nanometer scale and show that there are two classes of roughness with qualitatively different dynamics. The predictions agree with measurements of surface roughness relaxation. Using a...

A possibility of jet energy scale setting by help of ``p p -> Z0+jet+X'' process at LHC is studied. The effect of new set of cuts, proposed in our previous works, on the improvement of the Pt balance between Z0 boson and jet is demonstrated. The distributions of the selected events over Z0 transverse momentum and jet pseudorapidity are presented. A possibility of background events suppression by use of the "Z0+jet" events selection criteria is shown. It is also found that the...

The Z boson can decay to a pair of light gluinos through loop-mediated processes. Based on unitarity of the S-matrix, the imaginary part of the decay amplitude is computed in the presence of a light bottom squark. This imaginary part can provide useful information on the full amplitude. Implications are discussed for a recently proposed light gluino and light bottom squark scenario.

HadV98 = CoD-22 12017 = GSC 6825.253 is a variable star discovered by Katsumi Haseda. This object has been recently confirmed to be a new R CrB star (Hasselbach et al. 2002), as had been originally proposed by us at the time of the discovery alert in VSNET. We studied the light curve based on Haseda's photographic material and ASAS-3 V-band data. There was only major fading episode in the past decade. The fading started in 2001 May was composed of at least two minima, and followed by a slow...

Strongly confining an ultracold atomic gas in one direction to create a quasi-2D system alters the scattering properties of this gas. We investigate the effects of confinement on Feshbach scattering resonances and show that strong confinement results in a shift in the position of the Feshbach resonance as a function of the magnetic field. This shift, as well as the change of the width of the resonance, are computed. We find that the resonance is strongly damped in the thermal gas, but in the...

Multifrequency radio observations of the radio galaxy 3C459 using MERLIN, VLA and the EVN, and an optical HST image using the F702W filter are presented. The galaxy has a very asymmetric radio structure, a high infrared luminosity and a young stellar population. The eastern component of the double-lobed structure is brighter, much closer to the nucleus and is significantly less polarized than the western one. This is consistent with the jet on the eastern side interacting with dense gas, which...

We study the lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes $l_{i}\longrightarrow l_{j}\nu_{l}\bar{\nu}_{l}$ in the context of the topcolor-assisted technicolor (TC2) models. We find that the branching ratios $B_{r}(\tau\longrightarrow l_{j}\nu_{\tau}\bar{\nu}_{\tau})$ are larger than the branching ratios $B_{r}(\tau\longrightarrow l_{j}\nu_{l}\bar{\nu}_{l})$ in all of the parameter space. We extend the results of Cachazo, Seiberg and Witten to N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories with gauge groups SO(2N), SO(2N+1) and Sp(2N). By taking the superpotential which is an arbitrary polynomial of adjoint matter \Phi as a small perturbation of N=2 gauge theories, we examine the singular points preserving N=1 supersymmetry in the moduli space where mutually local monopoles become massless. We derive the matrix model complex curve for the whole range of the degree of perturbed...
