A general formula for bound-continuous transition form factors is derived. It is shown that these form factors can be represented in the form of finite sum of terms with simple analytical structure.

Based on the observed neutrino mass-square differences and mixings, we derive a few general patterns for the neutrino mass matrix in the flavor basis, which can correctly describe the atmospheric and solar neutrino data. Upon the most recent result on the absolute neutrino mass bound from WMAP, we can rule out a large portion of the parameter space that claimed by the positive signal in the Heidelberg-Moscow $0\nu\beta\beta$ experiment. In the case when one of the majorana phases is $\pi$, the...

Gade [R. Gade, Nucl. Phys. B \textbf{398}, 499 (1993)] has shown that the local density of states for a particle hopping on a two-dimensional bipartite lattice in the presence of weak disorder and in the absence of time-reversal symmetry(chiral unitary universality class) is anomalous in the vicinity of the band center $\epsilon=0$ whenever the disorder preserves the sublattice symmetry. More precisely, using a nonlinear-sigma-model that encodes the sublattice (chiral) symmetry and the absence...

We investigate the strongly interacting regime in an optically trapped $^6$Li Fermi mixture near a Feshbach resonance. The resonance is found at $800(40) $G in good agreement with theory. Anisotropic expansion of the gas is interpreted by collisional hydrodynamics. We observe an unexpected and large shift ($80 $G) between the resonance peak and both the maximum of atom loss and the change of sign of the interaction energy.

We derive gap equations for superconductivity in coexistence with ferromagnetism. We treat singlet states and triplet states with either equal spin pairing (ESP) or opposite spin pairing (OSP) states, and study the behaviour of these states as a function of exchange splitting. For the s-wave singlet state we find that our gap equations correctly reproduce the Clogston--Chandrasekhar limiting behaviour and the phase diagram of the Baltensperger--Sarma equation (excluding the FFLO region). The...

We develop general methods to calculate the mobilities of extended bodies in (or associated with) membranes and films. We demonstrate a striking difference between in-plane motion of rod-like inclusions and the corresponding case of bulk (three-dimensional) fluids: for rotations and motion perpendicular to the rod axis, we find purely local drag, in which the drag coefficient is purely algebraic in the rod dimensions. These results, as well as the calculational methods are applicable to such...

In this paper it is exactly proved that the standard transformations of the three-dimensional (3D) vectors of the electric and magnetic fields E and B are not relativistically correct transformations. Thence the 3D vectors E and B are not well-defined quantities in the 4D spacetime and, contrary to the general belief, the usual Maxwell equations with the 3D E and B are not in agreement with the special relativity. The 4-vectors E^a and B^a, as well-defined 4D quantities, are introduced instead...

The issue of Gamow-Teller sum rule in atomic nuclei is reexamined in the framework of a relativistic description of nuclei. It is shown that the total Gamow-Teller strength in the nucleon sector is reduced by about 12% as compared to the prediction of a non-relativistic description. This reduction is due to the antinucleon degrees of freedom.

XAssist is a NASA AISR-funded project for the automation of X-ray astrophysics, with emphasis on galaxies. It is nearing completion of its initially funded effort, and is working well for Chandra and ROSAT HRI data. Initial support for XMM-Newton data is present as well. It is capable of data reprocessing, source detection, and preliminary spatial, temporal and spectral analysis for each source with sufficient counts. The bulk of the system is written in Python, which in turn drives underlying...

We present infrared and millimeter observations of molecular gas, dust and ionized gas towards a sample of clouds distributed along the 500 central pc of the Galaxy. The clouds were selected to investigate the physical state, in particular the high gas temperatures, of the Galactic center region (GCr) clouds located far from far-infrared of thermal radio continuum sources. We have found that there is ionized gas associated with the molecular gas. The ionizing radiation is hard (~35000 K) but...

In this paper a first order analytical system of difference equations is considered. For an asymptotically stable fixed point x0 of the system a gradual approximation of the domain of attraction DA is presented in the case when the matrix of the linearized system in x0 is a contraction. This technique is based on the gradual extension of the "embryo" of an analytic function of several variables. The analytic function is a Lyapunov function whose natural domain of analyticity is the DA...

We investigate theoretically and numerically the effect of polymer additives on two-dimensional turbulence by means of a viscoelastic model. We provide compelling evidence that at vanishingly small concentrations, such that the polymers are passively transported, the probability distribution of polymer elongation has a power law tail: its slope is related to the statistics of finite-time Lyapunov exponents of the flow, in quantitative agreement with theoretical predictions. We show that at...

Before the era of British colonialism, East Africa was inhabited mainly by Africans living a traditional subsistence existence. No money economy existed and all exchanges of local production were on a barter basis. Outside trade with other societies was almost non-existent except for with coastal Asian and Arab traders. The coming of the European settlers and construction of the Uganda Railway at the beginning of the 20th century marked a major transition in Kenya. The settlers introduced...

This is a system file backup and restoration utility. It allows you to back up your system registry and restore it in case of a system failure. You can use it to revert back to a previous configuration. The registry cleaner and optimizer clears the Windows database registry of invalid information like fonts, ActiveX controls and COM sections, invalid file information, auto-run sections, DLLs and help sections. The registry defragger and optimizer removes disk fragmentation, deleting unused...

We have observed the cosmic microwave background (CMB) in three regions of sky using the Very Small Array (VSA) in an extended configuration with antennas of beamwidth 2 degrees at 34 GHz. Combined with data from previous VSA observations using a more compact array with larger beamwidth, we measure the power spectrum of the primordial CMB anisotropies between angular multipoles l = 160 - 1400. Such measurements at high l are vital for breaking degeneracies in parameter estimation from the CMB...

We report the results of an observation of a large diameter (110 pc) supernova remnant (SNR) found to encircle the position of the ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) IC 342 X-1. The inferred initial energy input to the SNR is at least 2 -- 3 times greater than the canonical energy for an ``ordinary'' supernova remnant. Two regions on the inside of the shell are bright in [O III] lambda5007 emission, possibly as the result of X-ray photoionization by the ULX. If this is the case, then the...

The problem of defining and constructing representations of the Canonical Commutation Relations can be systematically approached via the technique of {\it algebraic quantization}. In particular, when the phase space of the system is linear and finite dimensional, the `vertical polarization' provides an unambiguous quantization. For infinite dimensional field theory systems, where the Stone-von Neumann theorem fails to be valid, even the simplest representation, the Schroedinger functional...

We examine localized kinetic terms for gauge fields which can propagate into compact, warped extra dimensions. We show that these terms can have a relevant impact on the values of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) gauge field masses, wave functions, and couplings to brane and bulk matter. The resulting phenomenological implications are discussed. In particular, we show that the presence of opaque branes, with non-vanishing brane-localized gauge kinetic terms, allow much lower values of the lightest KK mode...
