For fields with more than $2$ elements, the classification of the vector spaces of matrices with rank at most $2$ is already known. In this work, we complete that classification for the field $\mathbb{F}_2$. We apply the results to obtain the classification of triples of locally linearly dependent operators over $\mathbb{F}_2$, the classification of the $3$-dimensional subspaces of $\text{M}_3(\mathbb{F}_2)$ in which no matrix has a non-zero eigenvalue, and the classification of the...

This set of theories presents an Isabelle/HOL+Isar formalisation of stream processing components introduces in Focus, a framework for formal specification and development of interactive systems. This is an extended and updated version of the formalisation, which was elaborated within the methodology 'Focus on Isabelle'. In addition, we also applied the formalisation on three case studies that cover different application areas: process control (Steam Boiler System), data transmission (FlexRay...

We have, in recent years, witnessed an increased interest towards enabling a Smart Grid which will be a corner stone to build sustainable energy efficient communities. An integral part of the future Smart Grid will be the communications infrastructure which will make real time control of the grid components possible. Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is thought to be a key enabler for monitoring and controlling the customer loads. %RPL is a connectivity enabling mechanism for low power...

A multipath mechanism similar to that used in Australia sixty years ago by the Sea-cliff Interferometer is shown to generate correlations between the periods of oscillations observed by two distant radio telescopes pointed to the Sun. The oscillations are the result of interferences between the direct wave detected in the main antenna lobe and its reflection on ground detected in a side lobe. A model is made of such oscillations in the case of two observatories located at equal longitudes and...

We consider the reaction dynamics of bosons with negative parity and spin $0$ or $1$ and fermions with positive parity and spin $\frac{1}{2}$ or $\frac{3}{2}$. Such systems are of central importance for the computation of the baryon resonance spectrum in the hadrogenesis conjecture. Based on a chiral Lagrangian the coupled-channel partial-wave scattering amplitudes have to be computed. We study the generic properties of such amplitudes. A decomposition of the various scattering amplitudes into...

We present new deep images of the Coma Cluster from the ESA Herschel Space Observatory at wavelengths of 70, 100 and 160 microns, covering an area of 1.75 x 1.0 square degrees encompassing the core and southwest infall region. Our data display an excess of sources at flux densities above 100 mJy compared to blank-field surveys, as expected. We use extensive optical spectroscopy of this region to identify cluster members and hence produce cluster luminosity functions in all three photometric...

We have studied the exciton states in a CdTe quantum ring in an external magnetic field containing a single magnetic impurity. We have used the multiband approximation which includes the heavy hole - light hole coupling effects. The electron-hole spin interactions and the s, p-d interactions between the electron, hole and the magnetic impurity are also included. The exciton energy levels and optical transitions are evaluated using the exact diagonalization scheme. We show that due to the spin...

In this book chapter we survey known approaches and algorithms to compute discrepancy measures of point sets. After providing an introduction which puts the calculation of discrepancy measures in a more general context, we focus on the geometric discrepancy measures for which computation algorithms have been designed. In particular, we explain methods to determine $L_2$-discrepancies and approaches to tackle the inherently difficult problem to calculate the star discrepancy of given sample...

In a recent experiment by Yamazaki {\it et al.} [Phys.Rev. A {\bf 87} 010704 (R) (2013) ], $p$-wave optical Feshbach resonance in fermionic $^{171}$Yb atoms using purely long-range molecular excited states has been demonstrated. We theoretically show that, if two purely long range excited states of $^{171}$Yb are coupled to the ground-state continuum of scattering states with two lasers, then it is possible to significantly suppress photoassociative atom loss by a dark resonance in the excited...

The theory of the column-row determinants has been considered for matrices over a non-split quaternion algebra. In this paper the concepts of column-row determinants are extending to a split quaternion algebra. New definitions of the column and row immanants (permanents) for matrices over a non-split quaternion algebra are introduced, and their basic properties are investigated. The key theorem about the column and row immanants of a Hermitian matrix over a split quaternion algebra is proved....

A new Kerr-like metric with quadrupole moment is obtained by means of perturbing the Kerr spacetime. The form of this new metric is simple as the Kerr metric. By comparison with the exterior Hartle-Thorne metric, it is shown that it could be matched to an interior solution. This approximate metric may represent the spacetime of a real astrophysical object with any Kerr rotation parameter a and slightly deformed.

At present, the 4th version of the EDMOND database, which contains 83 369 video meteor orbits, has been released. The first results of the database analysis, in which we studied minor streams, are presented. Using the radiant-geocentric velocity method...

We analyze general laws of continuous-variable entanglement dynamics during the deterministic attenuation and amplification of the physical signal carrying the entanglement. These processes are inevitably accompanied by noises, so we find fundamental limitations on noise intensities that destroy entanglement of gaussian and non-gaussian input states. The phase-insensitive amplification $\Phi_1 \otimes \Phi_2 \otimes \ldots \Phi_N$ with the power gain $\kappa_i \ge 2$ ($\approx 3$ dB,...

We discuss and compare two different approaches to the notion of Mishchenko--Fomenko subalgebras in Poisson-Lie algebras of finite-dimensional Lie algebras. One of them, commonly accepted by the algebraic community, uses polynomial $\Ad^*$-invariants. The other is based on formal $\Ad^*$-invariants and allows one to deal with arbitrary Lie algebras, not necessarily algebraic. In this sense, the latter is more universal.

Highest weight categories are described in terms of standard objects and recollements of abelian categories, working over an arbitrary commutative base ring. Then the highest weight structure for categories of strict polynomial functors is explained, using the theory of Schur and Weyl functors. A consequence is the well-known fact that Schur algebras are quasi-hereditary.

We use ultrafast optical spectroscopy to observe binding of charged single-particle excitations (SE) in the magnetically frustrated Mott insulator Na$_2$IrO$_3$. Above the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature ($T_N$) the system response is due to both Hubbard excitons (HE) and their constituent unpaired SE. The SE response becomes strongly suppressed immediately below $T_N$. We argue that this increase in binding energy is due to a unique interplay between the frustrated Kitaev and the weak...

Efficient methods for computing with matrices over finite fields often involve randomised algorithms, where matrices with a certain property are sought via repeated random selection. Complexity analyses for these algorithms require knowledge of the proportion of relevant matrices in the ambient group or algebra. We introduce a method for estimating proportions of families $N$ of elements in the algebra of all $d\times d$ matrices over a field of order $q$, where membership of a matrix in $N$...
