Lets not fool ourselves, these things are evil even without glowing red eyes and horrid scowling grimaces full of wide teeth. - Agh, looks like the date info is based on Thingiverse's location. Wile it was March 2nd at the Thingiverse server home it was still march 1st on another half of the planet when I posted this. Hopefully this is still within the contest limitations.

A variation on the upper z motor mount for MendelMax. This variation puts the motor a little lower than the stock version. There is one sized for 10mm rods and one sized for 8mm rods. I've just uploaded a copy of each that should print flat, which should theoretically print faster than printing them from the end.

Tired of having a normal chess set? Do you know 32 friend's with iPhones or have 32 iPhones laying around? Then meet the Smart Chess set! With this set of pieces, you get the functionality of an fleet of iPhones merged with a classic chess set. In fact, you could even play a game of chess on one of the pieces. Think of the headlines: "Chess player lost to their chess set".

Have you ever been watching your favorite movie or TV show on an iPhone and had someone walk up and rudely interrupt it? With Rabbit Ears for iPhone, that will be a thing of the past! By printing a pair of these out and placing them your iPhone, you can make it clear to people that you are watching a video. In a way these almost suggest to them that 'This is not the person your are looking for, move along'.

I'm thinking about making a chess set and this is my first design of a chess piece. It is 2.5 inches which is too big for my chess board, but it will make a nice conversation piece. It took 46 minutes for my Makerbot Thing-O-Matic with MK7 and 1.75 mm black plastic (no rafting). Wipe that Heated Build Platform with rubbing alcohol to get a great stick and no curling!!!

Episode 28: Ska Ska Ska! 5 Song Set is an eclectic music podcast that plays everything from ragtime to punk. Each episode is five songs long and includes information about the songs and the bands that perform them, as well as other interesting information that varies from show to show. On March 2, 2012, Episode 28 of the podcast was released. This episode features five very upbeat, very fun ska tunes. Ska has changed a lot over the years from its beginnings in Jamaica in the late 1950s, but the...

We define Letac-Wesolowski-Matsumoto-Yor (LWMY) functions as decreasing functions from $(0,\infty)$ onto $(0,\infty)$ with the following property: there exist independent, positive random variables $X$ and $Y$ such that the variables $f(X+Y)$ and $f(X)-f(X+Y)$ are independent. We prove that, under additional assumptions, there are essentially four such functions. The first one is $f(x)=1/x$. In this case, referred to in the literature as the Matsumoto-Yor property, the law of $X$ is generalized...

We show that it is possible to use the spatial quantum correlations present in twin beams to extract information about the shape of a mask in the path of one of the beams. The scheme, based on noise measurements through homodyne detection, is useful in the regime where the number of photons is low enough that direct detection with a photodiode is difficult but high enough that photon counting is not an option. We find that under some conditions the use of quantum states of light leads to an...

Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) develops in patients with chronic liver disease and has high mortality. A study in the March issue of Gastroenterology examined whether mobilization of bone marrow–derived stem cells with granulocyte colony–stimulating factor (G-CSF) might promote hepatic regeneration for patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). Dr. Kuemmerle speaks to author Dr. Shiv K. Sarin of GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi, India; Plus, a rundown of top stories from this...

On this week's episode of Graphically Speaking, one of the Area Men might be transforming into another life form altogether. That's what one gets for purposefully eating low budget buffet Italian food. Are game developer layoffs sounding like a fun way to kick off spring? Do comic book meth addicts catch your fancy? Perhaps a double dose of Jonah Hill will cure what ails? Tune in to Graphically Speaking tonight at 8:30 PM CST on Amp Network to find out!

We consider the problem of conducting a survey with the goal of obtaining an unbiased estimator of some population statistic when individuals have unknown costs (drawn from a known prior) for participating in the survey. Individuals must be compensated for their participation and are strategic agents, and so the payment scheme must incentivize truthful behavior. We derive optimal truthful mechanisms for this problem for the two goals of minimizing the variance of the estimator given a fixed...

We study supersymmetric structure of the self-isospectral crystalline chains formed by N copies of the mutually displaced one-gap Lame systems. It is generated by the N(N-1) integrals of motion which are the first order matrix differential operators, by the same number of the nontrivial second order integrals, and by the N third order Lax integrals. We show that the structure admits distinct alternatives for a grading operator, and in dependence on its choice one of the third order matrix...

Single-step implementations of multi-qubit gates are generally believed to provide a simpler design, a faster operation, and a lower decoherence. For coupled three qubits interacting with a photon field, a realizable scheme for a single-step Toffoli gate is investigated. We find that the three qubit system can be described by four effective modified Jaynes-Cummings models in the states of two control qubits. Within the rotating wave approximation, the modified Jaynes-Cummings models are shown...

This paper shows that a finitely presented monoid with linear Dehn function need not have a regular cross-section, strengthening the previously-known result that such a monoid need not be presented by a finite complete string rewriting system, and contrasting the fact that finitely presented groups with linear Dehn function always have regular cross-sections.

Contextual bandit learning is a reinforcement learning problem where the learner repeatedly receives a set of features (context), takes an action and receives a reward based on the action and context. We consider this problem under a realizability assumption: there exists a function in a (known) function class, always capable of predicting the expected reward, given the action and context. Under this assumption, we show three things. We present a new algorithm---Regressor Elimination--- with a...

This paper introduces an extension of Answer Set Programming called Preference Set Constraint Programming which is a convenient and general formalism to reason with preferences. PSC programming extends Set Constraint Programming introduced by Marek and Remmel (Marek and Remmel 2004) by introducing two types of preference set constraint atoms, measure preference set constraint atoms and pre-ordered preference set constraint atoms, which are extensions of set constraint atoms. We show that the...
