A whirlwind of political commentary from Steve in this show, including motorist persecution, the toll increase at the Dartford Crossing, police doing speed checks on Brighton Seafront and how some banks are not passing on the 2% interest rate change. nbsp;Oh, and we discuss driver safety, K-Series Rover head gaskets, Nissan rear door handles, and some tips on preparing your car for winter such as tyres (tread and pressure), lights, screen wash and good old WD40 in your locks. Enjoy!

In the first segment, you'll hear about the doctrine of Social Darwinism. It's the pill right-wingers take to allow them to sleep at night. Some audio clips of right-wingers may scare you, so be prepared. Barbara Bush, Bill Cunningham, Neal Boortz and Bill O'Reilly all have some choice words for you.Next, have you heard about the Bishop of the Poor being elected president of an impoverished Latin

{Aims.} We introduce our imaging survey of possible young massive globular clusters in M31 performed with the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). We present here details of the data reduction pipeline that is being applied to all the survey data and describe its application to the brightest among our targets, van den Bergh 0 (VdB0), taken as a test case. {Methods.} The reddening, the age and the metallicity of the cluster are estimated by comparison of...

This article is from Sensors (Basel, Switzerland) , volume 8 . Abstract Synthetic wideband waveforms (SWW) combine a stepped frequency CW waveform and a chirp signal waveform to achieve high range resolution without requiring a large bandwidth or the consequent very high sampling rate. If an efficient algorithm like the range-Doppler algorithm (RDA) is used to acquire the SAR images for synthetic wideband signals, errors occur due to approximations, so the images may not show the best possible...

Through detailed numerical simulations, we demonstrate that relativistic outflows (Lorentz factor $\Gamma \sim 7$) of electron-positron pairs can be produced by radiative acceleration even when the flow starts from a nearly pair equilibrium state at subrelativistic temperatures. Contrary to the expectation that pairs annihilate during an expansion stage for such low temperatures, we find that most pairs can survive for the situations obtained in our previous work. This is because in the...

We propose a simple model of supersymmetric dark matter that can explain recent results from PAMELA and ATIC experiments. It is based on a U(1)_B-L extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The dark matter particle is a linear combination of the U(1)_B-L gaugino and Higgsino partners of Higgs fields that break the B-L around one TeV. The dominant mode of dark matter annihilation is to the lightest of the new Higgs fields, which has a mass in the GeV range, and its subsequent decay...

We perform a complete analytical reduction of general one-loop Feynman integrals with five and six external legs for tensors up to rank R=3 and 4, respectively. An elegant formalism with extensive use of signed minors is developed for the cancellation of inverse Gram determinants. The 6-point tensor functions of rank R are expressed in terms of 5-point tensor functions of rank R-1, and the latter are reduced to scalar four-, three-, and two-point functions. The resulting compact formulae allow...

We study the robustness and stability of the yeast cell regulatory network by using a general inhomogeneous discrete model. We find that inhomogeneity, on average, enhances the stability of the biggest attractor of the dynamics and that the large size of the basin of attraction is robust against changes in the parameters of inhomogeneity. We find that the most frequent orbit, which represents the cell-cycle pathway, has a better biological meaning than the one exhibited by the homogeneous model.

In this paper, we consider for any free presentation $G = F/R$ of a group $G$ the coinvariance $H_{0}(G,R_{ab}^{\otimes n})$ of the $n$-th tensor power of the relation module $R_{ab}$ and show that the homology group $H_{2n}(G,{\mathbb Z})$ may be identified with the limit of the groups $H_{0}(G,R_{ab}^{\otimes n})$, where the limit is taken over the category of these presentations of $G$. We also consider the free Lie ring generated by the relation module $R_{ab}$, in order to relate the limit...

Local branching is an improvement heuristic, developed within the context of branch-and-bound algorithms for MILPs, which has proved to be very effective in practice. For the binary case, it is based on defining a neighbourhood of the current incumbent solution by allowing only a few binary variables to flip their value, through the addition of a local branching constraint. The neighbourhood is then explored with a branch-and-bound solver. We propose a local branching scheme for (nonconvex)...

We simplify the general form of the fermion-fermion-gauge boson interactions generated by dimension-six gauge-invariant effective operators by using the equations of motion to remove redundant operators. It is found that the most general vertex for off-shell fermions fi, fj and an off-shell boson V=W,Z,gamma,g only involves gamma^mu and sigma^{mu nu} q_nu terms, with q=p_i-p_j. Examples are given for the Wtb, Ztt, gamma tt and gtt interactions, whose general expression is greatly simplified...

We present our analysis of photometric data in the Johnson B and V filter of the southern Blazhko star SS For. In parallel, we analyzed the V observations obtained with the ASAS-3 photometry of the star gathered between 2000 and 2008. In the frequency spectra resulting from a Fourier analysis of our data, the triplet structure is detectable up to high order, both in the B and V data. Moreover, we find evidence for quintuplet components. We confirm from our data that the modulation components...

Motivation: Profile hidden Markov Models (pHMMs) are a popular and very useful tool in the detection of the remote homologue protein families. Unfortunately, their performance is not always satisfactory when proteins are in the 'twilight zone'. We present HMMER-STRUCT, a model construction algorithm and tool that tries to improve pHMM performance by using structural information while training pHMMs. As a first step, HMMER-STRUCT constructs a set of pHMMs. Each pHMM is constructed by weighting...

We investigate the connections between several recent methods for the discretization of anisotropic heterogeneous diffusion operators on general grids. We prove that the Mimetic Finite Difference scheme, the Hybrid Finite Volume scheme and the Mixed Finite Volume scheme are in fact identical up to some slight generalizations. As a consequence, some of the mathematical results obtained for each of the method (such as convergence properties or error estimates) may be extended to the unified...
