Two problems are discussed here. The first one is the 0.4 dex discrepancy between the 7Li abundance derived from the spectra of metal-poor halo stars on the one hand, and from Big Bang nucleosynthesis, based on the cosmological parameters constrained by the WMAP measurements, on the other hand. Lithium, indeed, can be depleted in the convection zone of unevolved stars. The understanding of the hydrodynamics of the crucial zone near the bottom of the convective envelope in dwarfs or turn-off...

The quasiclassical correction to the Moliere's formula for multiple scattering is derived. The consideration is based on the scattering amplitude, obtained with the first quasiclassical correction taken into account for arbitrary localized but not spherically symmetric potential. Unlike the leading term, the correction to the Moliere's formula contains the target density $n$ and thickness $L$ not only in the combination $nL$ (areal density). Therefore, this correction can be reffered to as the...

In this paper, we consider for any free presentation $G = F/R$ of a group $G$ the coinvariance $H_{0}(G,R_{ab}^{\otimes n})$ of the $n$-th tensor power of the relation module $R_{ab}$ and show that the homology group $H_{2n}(G,{\mathbb Z})$ may be identified with the limit of the groups $H_{0}(G,R_{ab}^{\otimes n})$, where the limit is taken over the category of these presentations of $G$. We also consider the free Lie ring generated by the relation module $R_{ab}$, in order to relate the limit...

We discuss flavor charges and states for interacting mixed neutrinos in QFT. We show that the Pontecorvo states are not eigenstates of the flavor charges. This implies that their use in describing the flavor neutrinos produces a violation of lepton charge conservation in the production/detection vertices. The flavor states defined as eigenstates of the flavor charges give the correct representation of mixed neutrinos in charged current weak interaction processes.

This letter is a generalization of previous results on gravitational waves (GWs) from f(R) theories of gravity. In some previous papers, particular f(R) theories have been linearized for the first time in the literature. Now, the process is further generalized, showing that every f(R) theory can be linearized producting a third massive mode of gravitational radiation. In this framework, previous results are particular cases of the more general problem that is discussed in this letter. The...

The template facility of C++, through some serendipity, provides powerful support for metaprogramming and compile-time reflection. However, C++ also has many shortcomings, making C++ template metaprograms inefficient and difficult to maintain. Garcia introduces a calculus for reflective metaprogramming in his thesis that provides all of the power and flexibility of C++ templates and solves many of its problems. However, one of the problems that remains is that the residual program is not type...

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - In a Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) high bay, workers check the alignment of a Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) aft center segment which has been lowered onto an aft segment already secured to a Mobile Launch Platform. These segments are part of the right SRB for the Space Shuttle Return to Flight mission, STS-114. Two SRBs are stacked on a Mobile Launch Platform for each Shuttle flight and later joined by an External Tank. The twin 149-foot tall, 12-foot diameter SRBs...

We present synthetic FeH band spectra in the z-filter range for several M-dwarf models with logg=3.0-5.0 [cgs] and Teff=2800K -3450K. Our aim is to characterize convective velocities in M-dwarfs and to give a rough estimate of the range in which 3D-atmosphere treatment is necessary and where 1D-atmosphere models suffice for the interpretation of molecular spectral features. This is also important in order to distinguish between the velocity-broadening and the rotational- or Zeeman-broadening....

We investigate canonical, phantom and quintom models, with the various fields being non-minimally coupled to gravity, in the framework of holographic dark energy. We classify them and we discuss their cosmological implications. In particular, we examine the present value of the dark energy equation-of-state parameter and the crossing through the phantom divide, and we extract the conditions for a future cosmological singularity. The combined scenarios are in agreement with observations and...

In this paper, we consider lifts of $\pi$-partial characters with the property that the irreducible constituents of their restrictions to certain normal subgroups are also lifts. We will show that such a lift must be induced from what we call an inductive pair, and every character induced from an inductive pair is a such a lift. With this condition, we will get a lower bound on the number of such lifts.

In this letter, we regard the $f(R)$ theory as an effective description for the acceleration of the universe and reconstruct the function $f(R)$ from the Ricci dark energy, which respects holographic principle of quantum gravity. By using different parameter $\alpha$ in RDE, we show the behaviors of reconstructed $f(R)$ and find they are much different in the future.

We theoretically investigate collision of optical beams travelling in opposite directions through a centrosymmetric photorefractive crystal biased by a spatially non-uniform voltage. We analytically predict the fusion of counterpropagating solitons in conditions in which the applied voltage is rapidly modulated along the propagation axis, so that self-bending is suppressed by the "restoring symmetry" mechanism. Moreover, when the applied voltage is slowly modulated, we predict that...

Local branching is an improvement heuristic, developed within the context of branch-and-bound algorithms for MILPs, which has proved to be very effective in practice. For the binary case, it is based on defining a neighbourhood of the current incumbent solution by allowing only a few binary variables to flip their value, through the addition of a local branching constraint. The neighbourhood is then explored with a branch-and-bound solver. We propose a local branching scheme for (nonconvex)...

The medium dependent finite width is introduced into an exactly solvable model with the general mass-volume spectrum of the QGP bags. The model allows us to estimate the minimal value of the QGP bags' width from the lattice QCD data. The large width of the QGP bags not only explains the observed deficit in the number of hadronic resonances comparing to the Hagedorn mass spectrum, but also clarifies the reason why the heavy QGP bags cannot be directly observed as metastable states in a hadronic...

Ramanujan sums are exponential sums with exponent defined over the irreducible fractions. Until now, they have been used to provide converging expansions to some arithmetical functions appearing in the context of number theory. In this paper, we provide an application of Ramanujan sum expansions to periodic, quasiperiodic and complex time series, as a vital alternative to the Fourier transform. The model parameters are obtained from available experimental data for Au thin films. Two cases are considered; annealed and nonannealed films that have a different damping function. The amount of detected baryons in the local Universe is at least a factor of two smaller than measured at high redshift. It is believed that a significant fraction of the baryons in the current Universe is "hiding" in a hot filamentary structure filling the intergalactic space, the Warm-Hot Intergalactic Medium ($WHIM$). We found evidence of the missing baryons in the $WHIM$ by detecting their signature on the angular correlation of diffuse X-ray emission with the XMM-Newton...
