Ok. No replies. No PM's on this forum either. Well, I am starting an Over The Edge collection. I will start logging incomplete episodes from my stretch of archive. (MISSING: Universe (#87), Aired May 22, 2015?) Anyone want to contribute or such, tell me. Enjoy, I will often include Puzzling Evidence as their stream of consciousness seems to go well with several hours of Over The Edge. Your valet, Pope Parking 23rd

I believe I have Universe 87. I'll check. Also, it's my understanding that they are digitizing the OTE archive in a higher resolution - 128 to 192, unlike the 24 or 64kbps KPFA podcasts. They are probably waiting to upload anything until they have them completed.

I think some interference is inevitable unfortunately. I know Don was struggling with his antique cart machines. I had been thinking about contacting an audio guy I know who might have expertise in this area. I may yet do this as Jon has indicated he will continue to do the show.
I have not yet been able to reach Jon to tell him I like his liminal OTE shows. I wrote to Mel but no reply yet. I finally sent a brief email to KPFA asking them to pass it on to him. I would have called but he said he couldn't figure out how to open the phone lines and would do that this week.
I hope he will continue to do sound collage even if he cannot fill up a whole 3-5 hours with them and starts putting other things in.
Anyway, I found I do have Universe 87 in 128k. I tried to attach it to this post, but it wouldn't accept it.

Hello, Pope, hello all.

Yes, as you've guessed, we've been digitizing all of Don's over 1000 cassettes of OTE air checks. This project has been about three years in the making so far, thus I must beg your indulgence for just a bit longer. The Internet Archive has graciously offered to support such a large project, so you'll see it here.

We've had access to almost 1000 shows (with new ones showing up all the time), and are about a week away from mailing the whole lot up to the archive. Then it may take a little while longer for the computers there to create lower rez copies and various options. So soon you will have, as Don once said "more audio than any human could possibly listen to." It's a challenge!

Please do not start another OTE archive here - that will be a touch confusing!

We're glad to read the enthusiasm in this thread, though, and we hope you'll join us not only in listening to these thousands of hours of material, but helping contribute your air checks for shows we may not have. The list is incomplete, and private collectors and fans can help fill in the gaps. Wait to see what we have, though, and feel free to let me know when you have a higher quality copy.

And to Bluejay, I'd like to apologize for the slow answer. I actually just forwarded your mail to Jon directly. So he does have your message!

Hey Mel, I am just now back here and got your message! Thank you for the update and for sending my message to Jon. I think he's doing great and Don would be proud. I am digitizing some of my & my friend's old stuff on tape & wonder if I should send it to him.
Yes, count me as one who wants the show to continue, and let it continue to be called Over the Edge.
I'll wait for the archive and keep asking around online for air checks. I know I have the first two hours of "We Believe", the Election 2000 show, if you need that.

Ok, Mel. Thanks for the thorough update!

I'm going to have the collection I have started, removed. I wish this project was produced 10 years ago, and short of doing something - thought nothing would continue to happen. Excuse my impatience.

I will pursue archiving The Puzzling Evidence Show separately.

No worry at all, Pope! I'm actually quite thrilled you're interested enough to bother. Ad I hope you take advantage of our archive - it's a bit overwhelming! In the interim, if you are looking for anything urgently, feel free to contact me privately. I've been putting shows up on dropbox, etc. for years now when collectors ask. So if there is something you'd like NOW before the whole archive goes up, let me know.

As of today, I see 941 shows in the archive. Will more be coming...or is this the entire collection? I ask because I also have a huge collection of OTE shows archived and would be more than willing to upload any missing shows to help complete the archive. My copies are mostly mp3...with bitrates ranging from 128-320kbps, depending on the show. Most of mine are complete episodes...but I do have a few partials as well (early years). I will check back to this thread and to the archive periodically for updates or any news. A big thank you for your dedication to preserve this great show, and for giving us fans access to shows we might not have...

If the archive is complete from your end...let me know and I can give you a list of my 'fill-ins' and you can then let me know how you want to process the integration. I could easily throw them into a cloud for you to access...or however you want to handle it...
