danilo vargas small business innovation manager in the office of mayor daniela levine cava and today i'm super excited because we have a very special huddle this morning it'll be a fast meeting but i want it i wanted to uh and i'm letting some folks in here i wanted to let you know that i'm on location here at the urban in overtown which is kind of a great green oasis here in the middle of the urban landscape in downtown miami and uh we are getting ready here the mayor levine cava the miami foundation and wells fargo are getting ready to make a major announcement about a donation for the small business owners of miami-dade county especially minority-owned small businesses which as you know have been heavily heavily impacted during coven and so this is a great day it really does feel a little bit like christmas and um we have some great news the event is going to happen from about 11 to 12. and we have a bunch of great leaders here mayor levine cava the ceo of wells fargo mr charlie scharf and uh fergie rica wilson congresswoman and uh rebecca fishman lipsy from the miami foundation of course and the mayor of miami mayor suarez and so just a bunch of great leaders here to share this good news uh about small business owners and new so you guys as part of the mayor's drive and sharing this great news so that you can take action and be a participant in this so i'm so glad that you guys are joining us i'm glad you got my email because uh i wasn't sure i was but we made it happen so with that being said i'm gonna talk to mr hector come on and i'm gonna go ahead and take off my headset okay all right so factor we're so we're gonna fix over here thank you so much it's great to be with you good morning and so this is the morning huddle it's a zoom call that we have every friday at 10 a.m for small business owners these are the folks that are we're hoping to assist with this great uh announcement that's gonna be made today so can you tell us about a little bit about what's gonna happen today uh absolutely well first i'm hector ponte i'm the regional banking director for wells fargo here in south florida and uh we're really excited to be here at the urban this morning we're gonna make a big announcement you gotta wait for the announcement but uh yeah we we are going to be uh uh doing a really big grant to the miami foundation to help small businesses here in miami-dade our focus is on diverse small businesses and specifically on helping small businesses gain more of their assets being able to own their buildings the lot that they're in um you know the equipment the technology uh expand their businesses uh that way that's the focus of our grants uh but you're gonna have to wait for how much uh and you'll if you're interested in it there'll be information about how to get in touch with the miami foundation well that's fantastic mr hector i want to ask you this the timing is great because um you know a lot of the funding has gone away and so this is impeccable timing so thank you for that and what does this mean for wells fargo well wells fargo developed this open for business fund from the uh fees uh from the ppp loans so we committed early on that all of the net profits from uh ppp we were going to turn back to our small businesses in our communities wow why miami well you know why miami why not miami right you know miami has this diverse and vibrant community lots of small businesses small businesses are the heartbeat of our community you know we employ small businesses employ the largest number of people and if our small businesses don't thrive uh our communities don't thrive uh and at wells fargo we know that we're only as successful as the communities that we live and work in uh and so this is the why right fantastic so these are the the the small business owners on the huddle here and uh any last thing you wanted to mention to them from wells fargo uh looking looking forward to getting to to help many of you as best as we can stay tuned for the big announcement later today great thank you so much thank you thank you thank you and next up guys we have the ceo president ceo of the miami foundation miss rebecca fishman lipsy and she's with joining me today and there's the camera there so say hello look at so this is a massive crew of small business owners it is it's great to meet you all to be here with you so what is this is a special event it does feel like christmas doesn't it it's christmas in february it's amazing i'm so excited and i'm excited to see small business owners here and ready to hear what's happening so you can jump ahead of it and access it and be a part of this with us and hopefully shape it with us right so what what should they do after the announcement and it's all said and done in about an hour or so um what would be the next step for them do you do we have any details about that yet yeah so you should head to our website so again i'm the president of the miami foundation so go to our website and you'll see a link right on the screen on the opening page to learn more information we're going to be working with small business owners and advisors from all around the community to define the boundaries and the guidelines for this effort over the course of the next few months that way we're doing it in a way that is responsive to the needs of business owners and so you'll see the guidelines come out this summer uh we have three years and the vast majority of the dollars that are coming in and it's a big number uh are gonna be going straight to historically disadvantaged minority business owners and i will say you know i speak now as the president of the miami foundation but i am the grandchild of small business owners who owned a button and trimming store and i know that that was what paid the rent that was what paid for my father to go to college and it is the heartbeat of our community i think it's 80 more of our businesses in miami have less than 10 employees and so we're looking for small businesses that are looking to create change in their communities that sustain our neighborhoods and so if that's you uh please click on our site please learn more please apply please help us shape this for our community we want to turn this uh i can't see the amount yet but this amount uh into a growing pool of funds that helps businesses like yours and our community well thank you so much for everything you do at the miami foundation it sounds exciting i'm i'm really happy about being a part of it as well i can't wait for the announcement get ready thank you so much thank you so guys did you catch all that very exciting sounds like a lot of good stuff can you guys hear me okay yes we can oh we can yes yes let me get my my headphone back on can you guys hear me okay did you catch all that yes yes yes isn't this exciting yes very exciting stuff all right what do you guys think so we got some guidance there on what to uh what we can expect and of course go to the miami foundation's website for more information and then the other cool thing i wanted to signal for you guys is that this is a donation that is for small business owners but also for my for um non-profits and so that was put in the statement that was released yes on wednesday by the county and by the mayor's office and basically it states that the miami foundation plans to use the funding to support diverse small businesses and non-profits through a combination of capital and technical assistance the organization will convene a diverse advisory council to help inform strategic programs design and disbursement of capital as you heard rebecca say and in addition they will also leverage insight from community stakeholders and county leadership to provide funding to small businesses and non-profits in miami-dade county so we can't just we can't say the amount just yet we're going to listen to the ceo of wells fargo for that information and but i'm really excited about what this means for all of us and you guys are right there in the center actually you're in the front row uh in terms of you know knowing about this program and participating and i just want to thank you guys for being strivers and for being huddlers on the morning huddle every friday you know i'm going to always work hard to make sure that you guys have the information that you need so to to be in the huddle is to be informed and be connected so that's the goal and i want to thank you guys for what you're doing anybody else have something to say or a comment that they want to make about this incredible news the microphone is open yes the website did you say it's um the miami foundation for greater miami is that for the culture the miami-dade department cultural affairs so the miami foundation is i guess the biggest philanthropic foundation and they work with um a number of uh corporations and other and other philanthropies to make sure that miami uh really can be a beacon of of uh of life for everybody in the world we know that people love miami all over the world and so we want to make this the best city that it can possibly be in the miami foundation tries to gather all the the stakeholders and also you know all those that want to give back to their community and and then they put it to projects that are going to benefit all of us so um if you go to the miami foundation right dot org and let me try to find it for you now so that i can tell you exactly yeah it's giving me miami-dade art so let me let me get that information for you and shame on me i should have it already but it's very simple it's the it's miami foundation dot org i'm not mistaken let me confirm that for a second bear with me i am on the road here so my internet is not the fastest um right now so while that pops up anybody else want to comment yes i wanted to say that needle really exciting uh one of some of the things that i heard is that they're going to be giving money for buildings and for um for um what did he say supplies uh things that uh that are gonna be used within the building um so that's pretty amazing wow you know that's an interesting point uh giovanna thank you for bringing that up because one of the things that they're that this donation is one two wanting to encourage is for small business owners to become owners not just perhaps lease an office front or a storefront but to actually own the building and acquire other assets that are going to allow you to leverage uh more financial power so to speak so that you can really take your business to another level so it's kind of a challenge to all of us to think in big ways about what's possible for your small business and that's what's so exciting and i love to see that so for asset acquisition and for development of your small business and it includes not only the money but technical assistance support which is something you guys know as part of strive 305 the mayor's initiative for small business owners is so important and that's why we have this hurdle with so many experts like uh you know like yes nay and others that are part of our community are helping us to tackle difficulties in our in our in our small businesses so absolutely i think that's exciting giovanna thank you for pointing that out it sounds amazing i i i got the site up and i'm going to share it on screen it is miami foundation that sorry you were saying something no no go ahead go ahead so i put the the website on the screen can you see it yes okay so you guys should be able to see it so it's miami foundation.org so mention to you guys is around 12 1pm right usually there is probably going to be a media advisory or a press release released by the county to just kind of do a summer because this truly is momentous and i am so proud to be in mayor the new carlos offices as we're doing this uh really great work to work with small business owners with puma every friday nowhere for real about it so um there's the website and you can go ahead and keep keep informed about what the miami foundation is doing they're the ones that also do give miami-dade that's the day that we as as individuals can support uh not doing great work and so there's so many non-profits so many amazing such great work and so give me this foundation we just lose them guys yes i think we lost him for a second but i'm sure he'll be right back i think he has um oh there he's back no we lost you danilo oh no that wasn't that neat nothing that was you kenneth [Music] to the miami dade when i went to the accurate are all you guys not for profits yeah because when i go to that site what i see is it's fun it focuses on not for profits now maybe i'm wrong but that's what i yes the way miami foundation works they pretty much provide funding to nonprofits so then those nonprofits can support for profits or whatever the cost they have you know so most likely whatever support wells fargo is providing miami foundation is going to be the holder of those funds to distribute them accordingly to the different guys i'm back can you hear me so this is about providing can you hear me guys we're talking yes we can hear you yes yes danielle i had a question because when i came right i'm back yes please tell me yeah when i went to the site for a miami foundation it appears that it's all about supporting nonprofits or not for profit right yes so the their focus is uh non-profits but they do work with small business owners and they are they are very practiced and this um and you know philanthropy and so they know how to they're very efficient they're very effective and that's why uh wells fargo has probably chosen them as the as the arm to help them with the disbursement which you know is complicated it sounds simple but given away money is not that simple and so you know it's a great partnership uh that and and this has been some great work that we've been doing in the mayor's office mayor levine cavas partners with the miami foundation so it's a great a great opportunity i'm confused yeah i'm confused so they're dispersing the foundation's funds so the donation is being made um by wells fargo to the miami foundation right to provide grants and funding to not-for-profits no for small business owners minority-owned small business owners but where is that non-profits are not excluded so if you go to miamidade.gov or better yet go ahead into your favorite search engine and type in miami-dade press releases okay and you will find the press release about this that was issued on wednesday i believe so the details that are being that have made made public to date are there okay so you can check it out but this is for small business owners and so this is a great opportunity for all of us here in the huddle we know we have some nonprofits in the huddle so i'm always pleased to see that our non-profits which do some amazing work including helping small business owners are getting some support through this donation from wells fargo to the miami foundation does that answer your question kenneth [Music] great thank you so much all right guys anybody else want to chime in here in the morning huddle before i disconnect before i lose my connection again i'm doing great how are you doing good love i i can't i came on 10 minutes late and i missed the announcement but from what i can pick up i need to go to miami foundation.org is that right that's right so to recap for you guys that missed it the the wells fargo is making a big donation to the miami foundation with here and we're here with mayor levine cava we're announcing this great donation it's for minority-owned small businesses and non-profits so it's a great opportunity and uh you can check it out on the press release there's going to be more information after this event so right after this event check in with that site where the press releases are from miami-dade.gov and you will know the details and the action plan that you should initiate but you heard from rebecca that you should go to the website not right now perhaps after the event has been announced for the details so that you can get involved and if there's questions later of course i'm around we're here every friday and i can answer them then make sense thank you well thank you guys so much um thank you for joining the morning huddle today it's a very special one i've never done it on location before and so you know i feel like one of those correspondents that goes around the globe except that i don't have a staff it's just me so uh before my internet cuts off i'm gonna go ahead and stay thank you guys for being part of the huddle you are what makes it work and uh this is some great news and i want all of you guys to participate so until next time i'll see you on friday give yourselves a big round of applause yes love you danilo you're looking to love what you do news hey everyone everybody happy friday everyone happy friday absolutely thank you miss stacy thank you jovanna thank you yes nay uh somebody 00:00:04.710 --> 00:00:07.430 align:start position:0% good morning everyone and
