and i want to point out -- haneda airport is quite a ways from hokkaido. but we're still feeling the impact from that gust. now, i mentioned the low pressure system that was the instigator of all this, it is pushing off toward the east. the winds will start to relax and we should see some improving conditions. we'll have a high pressure system moving in bringing southerly fl. buwe stilleed to go through tuesday night into wednesday before things start to calm down. so, expect anywhere from 35 to 40 centimeters of snowfall from hokuriku up to hokkaido. gusts still up to 144 kilometers per hour. waves stay in where from 7 to 8 meters, and so it's still going to be quite intense, at least as we go throughout the day on wednesday, and then we should start seeing some calm, and we should also see warmer temperatures. we're looking at midteens for tokyo and we're going into the single digits for sapporo with drier conditions for thursday and friday. close to 7 degrees coming up on saturday. we will also see warmer conditions in beijing for the rest of this week.

i'll show you video coming out of eastern hokkaido here in northern japan where the crane, actually a popular symbol of japan out here, about 50 of them were spotted here, a national protected species in eastern hokkaido. the temperature dropped down to about minus 8 degrees. pretty incredible images these birds. you get fairly luck can we if you actually get to see them out there. definitely starting to head south with more and more cool temps setting in out here. this front here going to be one of the coldest blasts of winter yet here this year. as this does continue to push off toward the east, first we'll be seeing rainfall across parts of honshu, maybe toward parts of hokkai hokkaido. that will change over toward snowfall, some areas 20 to 30 centimeters on top of an already above-average snow base around sapporo, extending through tohoku, niigata into nagano. it's not just the snow. there's going to be vastly lower temperatures. sapporo minus 2 for the morning low. tokyo 4, flirting with the zero-degree mark, some inland areas pushing the freezing point here on thursday admonish

hokkaido as well, you can expect that snowfall on saturday and sunday. even over towards monday only a high of 7 and it does cool off by sunday. across the mountains there in central japan, i know this is very autumn like, but a little taste of winter a little bit early here. actually i'll show you some video coming out of nagano prefecture, one of the more popular ski resorts out there has just recently opened here. they just started making some artificial snow opening in late october, two runs open, 15 yards wide, 400 meters long. you can see a little jump course there as well. you can get out there if you do want to scratch that itch to head out to some of the ski slopes. not until december will all ten of their slopes open up, that's just the artificial stuff and with the temperatures up in the mountains, they're definitely working hard to keep those slopes running. meanwhile back towards the west, high pressure continues tos ts dominate, keeping things on the cold side there in northeastern china. unfortunately, that high does create an inversion. a
