senate in tuesday' s ohio primary. incumbent senator rob portman has been called as the winner on the republican side. political veteran ted strickland november. wlwt news 5' s tammy mutasa takes a closer look at the race. tammy: p.g. sittenfeld giving a very gracious speech tonight, saying even though it' s tough to lose this senate race, he' s learned a lot and calling for democratic unity. sittenfeld said he has reached out to the projected democratic winner, former governor ted strickland. on the republican side, incumbent senator rob portman won the republican spot over don eckhart. it was a packed watch party for sittenfeld at the cincinnati fire museum. his supporters. he says he is proud of the substantive campaign he ran and the exposure he got. but sittenfeld says he needed to have more name regocnition around the state. still, he says never stop working and never stop dreaming mr. sittenfeld: i learned a lot about the people of ohio. they have hopes and dreams and aspirations that deserve meaningful leadersh

our primary system is broken and ohio can save it. in an excellent opinion piece in the new york times, political writer emma rauler makes the about 90 percent white. ohio more closely match it is demographics of the nation. it's racially diverse and culturally mixed with big cities, small towns and rural areas. we're a swing state that has a balance of republicans and democrats and it doesn't cost too much to campaign here. media costs are reasonable. giving underfunded candidates a prayer shot. but it probably won't happen. the parties have put penalty unless place for states that move their primaries up. cutting their delegates and our own secretary of state is on the record against it. still, it would've been nice to have had the chance to vote for a wider range of candidates if we wanted to. instead, we'll just have to take what's left after about 30 other states have had their say. in ohio first primary would be better for both parties and the country. i'm dominic mancuso and that's this bale of hay almost derailed the ranch. wh

ohio. polls show a dead heat or a slight edge for kasich in ohio. it' s difficult to say just what that lead may be. some polls show a double-digit lead over bernie sanders. others show a tighter race and both sides have been working to for democrats, it' s not winner take all, so a close race means a close split in the delegates awarded from ohio. mr. sanders: a few weeks ago people were saying, bernie sanders winning ohio? no way. well, guess what. we have a good vote tomorrow, people come out, we' re going to win here in ohio. mrs. clinton: i am so worried about our country and what could happen if we don' t band together to elect a president who can represent all of america. andrew: we' ll know how it all shakes out tonight. the polls close at 7:30 and the results should start rolling in here at the hamilton county board of elections shortly after. reporting live, andrew setters, mark: volunteers were hard at work monday calling voters to get some last-minute support before primary day.

making ohio even more important to his campaign. two new polls show where the race stands in ohio. a c-n-n.. o-r-c poll shows trump leading kasich 41 percent to 35 percent. ted cruz is third at 15 percent. and.. marco rubio has seven percent. a quinnipiac university poll shows a much tighter race. it has trump leading kasich by 38 percent to 32 percent... within the margin of error. cruz has 16 percent.. marco rubio gets nine percent. in most of the primaries so days before the primary how they'll vote have been a deciding factor. so with the ohio primary now less than a week away.. we sent nine on your side's tom mc-kee to take the public pulse. he joins us live from the hamilton county board of elections. tom. no republican has ever won the white house without winning ohio. so, both donald trump and john kasich are making a big push here to win voters and make sure they cast ballots on tuesday. they've created a lot of interest in the election -- especially up the road in camp washington. the talk was politics wednesday at camp washington chili. there were as many opinions served

what happens if he wins ohio and florida? >> he could win ohio and florida. i mean, he's neck and neck with john kasich in one recent poll. john kasich is ahead by a few points in another poll. but he certainly could win. if that happens, it puts him over 700 delegates. in which case, he would need to win the remaining 53% of delegates to hit that magic number, which wouldn't come without effort, but it's doable. but the real big headline may be at that point, it becomes nearly impossible, essentially impossible, for anybody else to get to that magic number. ted cruz would need something like 80% and john kasich can't get there. could never really get there. and then marco rubio either. of course, remains to be seen if he'll go on even if he does not win florida. but essentially, he knocks out the competition. and he is the only person who can get to that magic number, jose. >> jacob rascon in west palm beach, thank you very much. of course, the stakes here in florida could not be higher for marco rubio. for weeks now, the senator has said the future of his c
