holly williams is in paris tonight. holly, what are the connections between paris and brussels? >> reporter: well, scott, there is suspicion, but at this point no confirmation, that the two are closely linked. just four days ago salah abdeslam, the alleged logistical planner behind the paris attacks, was finally captured in belgium, and when the belgian police raided an apartment last week in brussels, they found ammunition an isis flag and abdeslam's fingerprints. imminent. >> pelley: but all of europe has been on alert since the paris attacks. how could this happen today? >> well, scott, we don't know if there were any intelligence failures, but certainly one criticism that is leveled at european intelligence officials is that they don't share enough information because they don't trust each other. and that's a very big problem. because within europe you have open borders and visa-free travel between countries. some of the men involved in the paris attacks were able to go to syria, fight or receive training from isis and then return home, traveling through europe apparently un

elizabeth palmer has reached aleppo, and holly williams is in northern syria. we'll begin with holly. >> reporter: masorat al rashid village was liberated from isis just three days ago. we saw the body of an isis house hit by an air strike. joza khalaf and her cousin khatar told us the extremists held guns to their heads, forcing their way into the women's homes to hide. they said the isis fighters also dressed up as women to avoid capture. the nearby town of al shaddadi was liberated last week. the isis slogans are still there, but the town's now under the control of the syrian democratic forces, an arab-kurdish alliance that is supported by the u.s. so this was an american air strike? commander media kobane told us that u.s. coalition air strikes helped her fighters win the battle here. this used to be the main road connecting raqqa, the so-called isis capital in syria, with mosul, iraq's second biggest city, also controlled by isis. but now the road has been democratic forces. colonel tala selo told us his fighters have been given over 100 tons of ammunition

holly williams is headed there. she joins us now on the phone. holly, good were monmorning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. we're seeing video that appears to show at least some of the passengers from that hijacked plane being released on the tarmac in cyprus. the plane landed there just before 9:00 local time. as to how many passengers have been released, there is not much clarity at this point. local media in cyprus is saying that the hijacker or hijackers agreed to release all the women and children on board. they're saying that 30 to 40 people have been released. other media is reporting that 56 people have been released. we've also heard this morning saying that everyone on board has been released with the exception of the cabin crew and four to five passengers. the reuters news agency is reporting that there were ten american citizens and eight british citizens on board. we can't ind pendly confirm this at this point, but we're working to do so. we're also hearing some reports about who the hijacker or one of the hijackers may be. eg
