charleston mayor joe riley will end his 40 years in office with a farewell address. riley will speak to the city tonight in a message that will stream live at 7 pm. he's served as mayor longer than anyone ininhe city's 345-year history and is credited with leading charleston through an urban renewal that has made the city one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. the city of columbia is looking for some expert help in understanding last year's floods, and maybe heading them off. tonight the city council will talk about an agreement regarding technical consulting support for the gills creek watershed environmental project. the gills creek area experienced significant flooding back in october. council members are also expected to talk more about an agreement between the city of telecommunications company regarding funding related to the bull street development, still in the worksks a major development project is on the agenda in west columbia. tonight the city council is expected to give a final vote on the development for the property across the stree

carol: a woman among the victims of the charleston church massacre observes martin luther king day. michael: we begin with the cold weather. carol: john cessarich is tracking the forecast. john, how cold is it go get? john: possibly single digits. not even the wind chills, late tonight in the mountains. teens, mid-to-upper teens in the upstate. then, we are talking about wind chill advisories from now until noon tomorinof carolina. wind chills as low as -20 degrees. dress in layers, protect your skin. -20 is the high peaks around 5000 feet. there the north georgia mountains, negative 10-negative five wind chills later tonight the windchill warning goes until 10:00 a.m. on tuesday. the winds will be fairly light outside the mountains. look at the wind chills already. 16 a gainesville, four in hendersonville. four in boone. eight degrees the windchill currently in downtown asheville. dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills will set the stage for a series of storms coming in this week. we may be cold enough to see a little frozen stuff. more about that later on. carol: a traffic

weekend for mount charleston as folks head up to see the snow! resort's directors say lee canyon has seen around 74 inches of snow this season. thats compared to the 71 inches of snow for the whole season last year. workers at the resort say ski and snowboard classes have already started to fill up. locals say the trip up the mountain is well "i love the environment here. love all the people here, i love the snow. its small. its nice and warm out now super duper cold." "hanging out hitting some runs, snow is perfect for today. worried at first. last time it was kind of rocky, but today was perfect." and you will see more highway patrol at mount charleston this season. troopers will be giving out citations for those illegally parked around lee canyon. drivers should also expect heavy traffic around the snow areas. and if you've been thinking about heading up to red rock canyon today's the day to do it. the park is offering free entry in honor of martin luther king junior day. you can take the scene drive... bike... or hike dozens of trails. overni
