that's the latest from leesburg am back to you. >>> tony tull live in leesburg. a powerful winter storm creeped closer to the east coast while you were sleeping. this should give you an indication of what this storm will bring. it dumped more than half a foot of snow in southern wisconsin leading to dozens of accidents. things will be worse in the northeast. road crews are scrambling to treat road before the blizzard arrives. we're hearing that boston could be buried beneath 2 feet of snow before it's all over. tom kierein here with more on the impact of the storm. >> right now -- >> first i want to show you live pictures from new york's times square. a little light rain falling there. maybe wind picking up as well. already all the airports in that region have canceled about 1500 flights. they it that yesterday actualliment we're going to have more on what they'll see in that part of the country just ahead. forecasters say that the approaching winter storm could actually be an historic event for boston and it arrives days after the anniversary of a major blizzard

leesburg. as you mentioned, aaron, you can see the snowflakes falling. here is the thing. you've heard tom say all morning long. the road temperatures are too high for this to stick. if you look right here, even in the untreated areas, the snow is not stinging. even if you look here, road conditions are not that bad. they are wet. but they are not snowy and at least here along certain parts of leesburg pike they're not icy. if you are headed out this morning, know you have to dust your car offment you'll have a little bit of accumulation. probably a little less than an inch. as soon as you get to the roads and sidewalks, you should be okay. a lot of areas coming in were affected by rain. we had puddles then we got here to leesburg and then snow and flurries. make sure to put a buffer on your time and it's friday, have an easy commute to work or to school and enjoy the weather. that's the latest from leesburg, guys back to you. >> tony, thank you. >>> we can tell you that airports will be a mess

even if you take a look out here on to leesburg pike here in historic leesburg, you can see it's -- i wouldn't say it's accumulating on the roads, but you can see it's starting to stick a little bit. we don't expect this to last for too much longer. again, as you heard, loudoun county schools are delaying. we're going to send it over to danella with an update on the road throughout the region. how is it looking? >> tony, pretty clear on the roads especially around the beltway. starting with the rails. they're open. no reported delays there. as we were talking about the roads as far as volume, not seeing any and we'll head up to i-270, because as of now, still seeing just rain on camera. so out of frederick, can't see cameras there. when we get closer to germantown, still seeing rain as well as the rockville area. rain. a look at the beltway, you can see just wet here. as far as major volume, you're nice and clear between i-270 passing this time connecticut avenue and continuing towards i-95. your travel lanes are open. aaron, over to you. >> thank you, danella. if you planned to catch

take a look at they number now. 43 in leesburg. the temperature in winchester has dropped nearly 20 degrees. it's dropped nearly 15 in leesburg. it has dropped ten degrees in washington. there's our storm number one, that moves through overnight into early tomorrow morning. then storm number two off the coast. that one will have enough cold air, anything that falls in our region will be snow. just a matter of how close the storm system gets. i do think we'll have some snow. that would be the best spot for that during the day tomorrow. that storm system moves out. everybody sees the same thing on sunday. that's just cold and very windy conditions. again, mainly rain down to the south, a few flakes, less than an inch to the north and west. really less than an inch here. maybe 1 to 2 up to the north, toward aberdeen, but for our region, we won't see much. storm number 2 does have more potential, a few flakes back to the north and west. southern maryland, less than an inch. over towards calvert beech. down around the patuxent river, ma

frederick, maryland, leesburg, winchester, all seeing snow. back towards urbana and frederick county, mt. airie, and as i mentioned down toward the south, towards bluemont, through west virginia, all snow right now, mixing sometimes with some sleet back towards marrens burg. around the d.y. metro area, the radar says all rain, but once again a bit of mixture, rain, sleet and no moving in. that will continue to make its way down toward the south and east. quantico, towards la plata, waldorf and calvert beach, not expecting you to change over. you may see some flakes mixed in, but most of it should stay just to your north as the storm system itselves is moving that way. you can see where the storm is moving, creating snow in through portions of -- but for us, the southern extent, there's not much of it. taking you through the next couple hours, look at what happens. we see that in and around d.c. still seeing some snow, as we talked about, maybe a dusting, maybe a coating, by 11:00, it's just about out of here. by early tomorrow morning you shou
