"people" magazine staff writer steve helling joins me by phone for orlando where he has been watching every moment of this case very closely. steve, casey's anthony, took the stand. he is a key witness, we know. the defense earlier this week accused him of sexually assaulting casey and says that he saw caylee fall into the pool. but anthony seemed at times a bit testy and denied a lot of claims made by the defense so what did we really learn from him on the stand today? >> well, the first thing we learned, which was interesting, was that there's no love lost between george anthony and casey's attorney, jose baez. they glared at each other the entire time. it was ugly, it was tense. but we didn't really learn much about what had happened on the day that caylee died. what we did hear was more about gas cans that casey alleged

a former boyfriend of casey's testified that she had told him -- casey said she had been abused by her brother, her brother tried to sexually abuse her. the jury didn't hear that. why was the jury not allowed to hear that testimony? >> because it would be prejudicial. now what the judge did was allow him to proffer testimony outside the presence of a jury. and what that does is preserve that testimony for the future. the defense will want to use that to refute the allegation of a recent fabrication. the idea that she recently made that up just to help her defense. but, i think it totally backfired on them, because what the boyfriend said was not a huge deal. he said that she never said her mother abused her. and that the brother just tried to, you know, feel her up, but it didn't happen. she stopped it. that doesn't elevate to the level of sexual abuse this jury's going to be looking for to explain her behavior. >> when all is said and done do you expect casey anthony to take the stand? >> i don't see how she cannot. based on that explosive opening statement by the defense, and the all

casey is with us this morning. the last thing these already traumaizized residents of joplin needed was another tornado scare and that scare became very real late last night. absolutely, ali. folks were on edge all day long because we knew the tornadoes were approaching the area. 9:30 local time there was a knock on my hotel room, hotel staff alerting people that tornado warning sirens were going off and advising us to get into the tornado shelter, the tornado shelter at this particular hotel is actually the first floor hallway. so i headed down there. i was on the third floor headed down to the first floor and i think we can show you some pictures my colleague photographer shot. people that were down there included family member eshs, dogs, people who had been displaced from this tornado who had lost hatheir home. people on ill-timed vacations. a lot of insurance personnel here to process the incredible number of claims sure to emerge after this big tornado. we sat in that hallway and in the lobby of the hotel abo
