sills is a psychologist, deborah russell is the head of workplace issues at aarp. nice to see you. we have a lot more people in the work place dealing with this dynamic. it's inevitable because of the aging baby boomers. >> absolutely. there are 76 million baby boomers. more older workers remaining in the work place. aarp has a study that shows almost 70% plan to work past traditional retirement age which means you will have multi generational work forces. >> now that i'm in my 50s i subscribe to the notion that with age comes experience. 20 years ago i would say, it's a young man's world. but what does an older worker have to deal with psychologically and emotionally when dealing with a younger person as a superior? >> we are going to work until we drop. when i get a younger boss, inside i'm a little bit embarrassed. what does this mean about me? number two, i'm skeptical because you look 12 and i can't believe you're going to run this the department. number three, maybe i'm resentful. you passed me by. why am i not the boss of you? those feelings get in the way. >> isn't it true

we are committed to that culture and court named over the last 10 years by aarp as a top company for workers over 50. at the same time, people are starting to live longer and healthier lives. the majority of our workers are delaying retirement bid by offering phased retirement, flexible work schedules, and intergenerational program and, we have been able to successfully retained older workers. research shows that workers -- nurses leave because of changing interest, being called on to care for aging members, family members, and work that is to physically demanding. we have been able to offer phased retirement. what does that mean? option number one, an employee may cut back to part-time work and continue to receive a pension check. an employee may receive a pension check at age 70.5 and continue to work. an employee may retire and then be rehired at a later date, continuing to collect a pension check. our older workers are eligible for medical, dental, vision coverage and other valuable benefits including tuition reimbursement. those workers age 62 and older, we are providing health

you have a couple of mean groups, including pennsylvania aarp, who are saying you are literally taking hundreds of billions of dollars a year out of programs for the elderly supported by the lottery and using it to fund the general fund budget. gov. rendel disagrees, saying it is spent on elderly programs within the general fund budget, but that is not entirely true. the budget has dipped into environmental programs. takes $180 million from the oil and gas fund which is supposed to be supporting environmental programs and put that into the general fund to pay for losing all these revenues. the fact is, the budget black hole of the last two years has been taking away funds and increasing waiting lists specifically, most notably for the poor and the elderly and environmental programs. there have been some smaller cuts in dollar amounts, but larger in percentage, to the department of agriculture also. the short term for this budget has been -- it is a bad budget for the elderly. liberals, the environment. host: we will ask about schools in a couple of minutes, but let's take a call from p
