the storm hit the famous venice beach in los angeles. some of the victims were on the boardwalk, others in the water. witnesses say the deadly storm struck out of the blue. >> reporter: lifeguards race through the surf at venice beach to reach a swimmer injured during a lightning strike. they gave him cpr before placing him in an ambulance. >> the beach, chaos after it happened. we got zapped. >> what did it feel like? >> it felt like a lot of heat on the head and pressure on the head and you know, eyes blurry a little bit. >> reporter: the at least eight people, include egg 15- year-old, were take tone local hospitals. >> they -- taken to the local hospitals. >> they were in the water or near the water. >> reporter: the witnesses say the storms came out of nowhere. >> i was asleep. i woke up. i thought a plane crashed nearby because it was -- it was a loud, loud sound. >> people that were sitting in the sand on the beach felt the electricity come through the sand. >>> fire officials say most of the victims were shaken up and to be okay.
