in california, a raging wildfire is exploding in zenaida size and spreading. and bradley manning has been sentenced for 35 years, but now says he wants to live as a woman and is requesting hormone therapy. all that and more straight ahead. we start with the crisis in syria. president barack obama met with his national security team at the white house today to talk about reports of a chemical weapons attack by the syrian government. but syrian state tv says soldiers found chemical weapons in tunnels used by rebels. cnn cannot confirm those claims or the authenticity of these images. these are images from that alleged attack by the government forces. a top u.n. official is in damascus today asking to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons. back home, president obama sat down with chris cuomo earlier and he said the u.s. is still gathering information on that attack. >> if the u.s. goes in and attacks another country without a u.n. mandate and without clear evidence that can be presented, then there are questions in terms of whether international law sup

a wildfire in california continues to burn out of control. thousands of people have been evacuateed from their homes. so far, it's consumed 16,000 acres. 700 firefighters are battling the blaze, which is only 5% contained. >> indra petersons is tracking the severe weather for us. any help for the firefighters out west? it's been a busy summer. >> there's good news. more moisture and rain. it could mean that mixed bag of high winds and potential for more lightning that started the fires in the first place. you can see the red flag warnings in the region for that reason. strong winds gusting 40 to 50 miles per hour. the upside of this, more moisture and rain expected each day with the storms being closer. also, the long distance outlook here. more moisture moving into the area. there's a system south of mexico. 80% chance of development over the next five days. it will ruin the plans up along baja as we see the moisture make its way up the area. flooding potential for the start of next week and more storms into the fire zones. that could be goo

obviously, there have been some economic woes in california. you certainly had a bad economy, and all of that trickled down to students. how are students handling this, the tuition hikes. what do they need to do to get by, when you're looking at for undergrads, all the costs associated with tuition and living expenses topping out at over $30,000 a year? >> right. since so many students are having to take on multiple jobs, taking on multiple loans, just to afford the cost of tuition. and you know, on top of that, we have the cost of living in los angeles, which is very high as well. and we don't want to devalue the work that these deans and administrators have done. ting fund-raising and development is so important to ucla. and the chancellor at the university has done a great job at fund-raising, however, we don't believe that's an excuse to have excessive spending habits. >> and not just to pinpoint this one woman, although she kind of stands out, the dean of the business school, she sort of stands out because of her exorbitant costs. when you

he is with the california highway patrol. you can see all of the emergency personnel that are there on the scene here, but the way he is describing this, it is a three axle tour bus that you see on its side and flipped over. there are injuries. we are told involving this bus accident. we don't know how many. you can actually see these life flight helicopters, they are actually landing there on the freeway to transport victims of this bus accident. where this is, it is 210 eastbound and three lanes and the 605 are closed and they're reporting now potentially 40 patients involved in the bus flipping over. you can see that they are transporting people through the helicopter there. this is just developing. it is breaking. we have another story as well that is breaking out of the similar area here, we're talking from officer ed jacobs of the california highway patrol says there was a pipe bomb, what appeared to be a pipe bomb in the woodland hills, california, area, the california transportation crew working on a shoulder found wh
