As a long time Batman collector, especially record albums, I have often DJ'd sets of Bat-covers and ephemera, and here is my latest version. I have a great fondness for cheapo Batman rip-off lps made to cash in on the 1966 craze so we'll hear some of those, as well as a number of "legitimate" and official products. I sat on this particular episode for many weeks before assembling it, as I often do - waiting for strong inspiration to make it come alive for me, also I was concerned as usual with how it would all "gel" together, if at all. I tend to not want to do musician theme shows as merely "music cut followed by music cut", so I searched out a lot of interesting EXTRA vocal and non-musical bits to make it fun for me and I like the final outcome on this one! Crank it and see what you...

Yes, that's right, it's a whole hour devoted to the recordings of three-time Oscar winner Walter Brennan (1894 - 1974). He made a lot of albums and singles from the late 1950s to the mid 1960s and I've always gotten a real kick out of them. Enjoy this 22-cut sampler of all things Brennan !

Here comes another listener favorite. A lot of careful editing and craftsmanship went into the making of this show. A number of rare tracks (such as material from the making of "Her Satanic Majesty's Request") and material reaching from the 1960s through the 1970s. A great deal of quality Stones is crammed into this one-hour show (or, "A trip down memory lane." as one listener described it - which it is, but given my usual special touches).

An example of what they call in the TV biz a "bottle" show, in other words, sometimes I'm just going to play a classic record or two All the Way Through. In this case, it is the first collaboration album between Brian Eno and Moebius and Roedelius ( Cluster ), a very lovely and super-minimalist affair. Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later - here I am with yet another darned show revolving around the Fabs. In this instance, I went for inspiration to a classic radio show from 1984 by the Big City Orchestra on the Over the Edge program (which can be heard in all of its glory here ), where our theme that night was entitled simply Beatles Hell , and which was later edited down into a one-hour cassette release of that name by the band. A one hour tribute to vintage sound effects records. I've included a few really old ones from 78 rpm discs, but mostly long-players from the 1950s and 60s. This was a bear to put together, the result of many downloads of old records and then hours of sifting sounds out of them and assembly. The final result features at least 75 tracks - a new record for my show! Turn It Up-! It is after all Doctored for Super-Stereo!

Another episode that has a music genre theme - this time out, being the concept of British Psychedelia , with a few non-Brit elements thrown in because I couldn't help but use 'em. Also it is rooted in the 1960s. The full list of artists is up there in the TOPICS section, because, you know, the metadata. As usual, turn it up, this is another PARTY show with the emphasis mainly on rocking tunes and faster beats. Enjoy!

Tonight we pay tribute to Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee (1922-2015) as we present the entire 1996 cd project Devils, Rogues, & other Villains .  It's a very fun album and a fine showcase for his terrific voice. Crank it up and Enjoy !

Tonight's show spotlights the entire 1964 album produced by Jackie Barnett , Poitier Meets Plato , with, yes, Sidney Poitier tackling passages from the writings of Plato , with deft musical backings by the wonderful Fred Katz ! Of course I throw in some surprises to fill the second half hour,  and round out this mad hour of spoken-word-based entertainment!

On a goofy whim, I decided to make my first all- Zappa episode a challenge for myself - to make it LESS challenging for people who can take him or leave him.  I set out to find an hour's worth of the nicest, sweetest, most romantic music of his that I could sift out of several dozen records, both with the Mothers and without. I'm very happy with the result. In a future episode I'll come back to Frank and his pals and play some more rare and unusual stuff. Here is the setlist for this show:...

Again with the Caedmon records!  A while back I went on a bender of tracking down Caedmon records that I don't own on YouTube and this is another score from those sessions. Good ol' Vinnie is always welcome on my radio programs.

Rock along with your pal J.R.R. Tolkien as he presents some poems and songs from his novels, with the help of composer and pianist Donald Swann (of Flanders & Swann fame) and singer William Elvin (no relation to Elven folk, as far as we know); followed by some English folk songs presented by Kathleen Ferrier , Phyllis Spurr , and Herbert Hughes . Another rave-fest, and the first of the third season format change for 2020, wherein I present an all-music show one week and a spoken word or...

During my time making a weekly television show in San Francisco (1999-2007) I got into the habit of using an old TV broadcasting gimmick that I call the "Clip Show", in which elements of already-shown episodes are re-cut to make a "new" installment of a show. Whilst trolling through my archive of past radio shows recently, it occurred to me that some disparate episodes might be fun to jumble together in an unfamiliar way, thus creating a "Cut-Up" show, in an almost...

It took me a long time to get around to making my first all- Johnny Cash episode; I think mainly because I have so MANY albums and things of his to choose from. I was dreading doing the first one in a way until I found the correct "way in" to attack the subject. I'm glad that I held it back, though, until I was fully "ready", as the finished show came out really well. I tracked down a lot of obscure Cash PSAs and commercials to spice the proceedings, unlike the way the...

A celebration of the lovely first two albums ( Tales of Mystery and Imagination, and I, Robot ) by the Alan Parsons Project , from 1976 and 77 respectively. I was 15 when the first one came out and I played the heck out of it, and was equally enamored of the second one. Turn It U p, naturally!
