Characteristics of the Koinonia of Christ
John 13:34-35
Synopsis: This is the second in a series on the church as it pertains to the local congregation. The first message dealt with Characteristics of a Servant Church. Today my focus is on the fellowship ( Greek: “Koinonia”).
The local congregation holds a Trinitarian view of their relationship with God. The believer’s journey of faith begins with God (Father) and reaches out in Christ (Son), and is always motivated by the Spirit (Holy Spirit). Membership, in terms of having one’s name recorded somewhere or receiving special benefits as a result of membership, is foreign to the koinonia of Acts. Believers are partners with one another in Christ, therefore partakers of Christ’s nature and mission.
