I know the story at the beginning was just a parable and not a true story, but I have issues with this.
Are we to understand that Jesus never spoke out against anyone? That He didn't condemn anyone? That's totally true when it comes to you and me and the common jew or gentile of his ministry, but it's definitely not true for the pharisees. Go read the New Testament again with the focus of finding out what Jesus's opinion was of the scribes and pharisees. You might be surprised how much he practically detested them and their hypocrisy. Yes, they could always turn to Him and repent (Nicodemus is a good example), but Jesus railed on them and their ways over and over again.
