The world is in darkness and lives in fear of light and being found out. Jesus came to step into our darkness in order to redeem us. He came to push back the darkness and set us free. He doesn’t turn his back to our darkness, but actually moves into our hurt, brokenness and pain.

In the Kingdom of God, when it seems like there is nothing going on, God is always up to something, and He always has a plan. God hardly does anything by Himself, and calls us, ordinary people, to follow His plan and do the things that need to be done.

God requires righteousness from us, but we are incapable of becoming righteous on our own. Our only hope is that God himself gives us the righteousness He demands. Our Father provides a way to righteousness, and all we have to do is have faith to accept it … and He even provides the faith. We are undeserving of God’s grace and righteousness, but he gives it freely to us.

God has a diversity agenda, and as followers we are called to adopt his agenda. The scripture clearly teaches that it is better to disassociate with the name of Christianity then to live a lukewarm, apathetic life. In our spiritual village each one has a job: Children – hope; Older people – wisdom and patience; Mom’s and Dad’s – longsuffering and helping; Young people – change the world! As we fall in love with the work of God, we are believing in a better world and His kingdom...

As kingdom people, seeking to live in the way of Jesus, we should be concerned that everyone, everywhere experiences shalom – a life that is flourishing. We need to be conscious consumers and cultivators. How we consume matters. What we cultivate matters. As we consider issues such as Creation Care, Clean sustainable drinking water, food, nutrition and the world hunger crisis, and human trafficking … we must ask the question – What is mine to do?

If we believe and accept the truth of Genesis 1, the rest of the Bible falls naturally into place. Science reveals the creation; the Bible, on the other hand, reveals the Creator. Our creator has a personal plan for each of us, so we should be listening for His voice, be aware of His presence, and be reminded of his love for us.

God has made us for Himself and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in God. He has also called us to the ministry of reconciliation with each other and our world. Healing and reconciliation can happen in a moment, but more often it happens in the willingness to journey together.

Experiencing God in His glory and fullness fills us with His Spirit. The result of this experience is the ability to see and respond to the mission field and needs around us. We breathe in His Spirit and breathe out upon a world in need. God is looking for willing souls to see the lost and the marginalized and to share the good news of the Kingdom with them. The question is, “how will we respond?”

Reconciliation begins with God and requires our cooperation. Each human bears the image of God, and when we begin to see and acknowledge this reality it becomes possible to move forward in reconciliation. Jesus modeled reconciliation so we would do the same.

Through the poignant story of the untimely death of one who chose death we learn significant lessons. Even in the eye of the storms of life, choose life … the Lord our God is life. Our only hope is to trust in Him.

The Servant Leadership Award was given by the Elwood foundation. Following the presentation the senior class chaplain of 2017 shared a compelling message on the power of a name, articulating that God changed individual’s names when their destiny was about to be radically changed. Today being defined by the name Christian, when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, is the ultimate name and vision for our lives, because it communicates that we are capable of becoming like Jesus. In closing,...

The summer mission trips of 2016 and the spring break mission trips of 2017 were highlighted as representatives shared the impact these experiences had on their lives personally. The reports focused on a seed that God planted in the students as a result of the trip, and also a seed they saw God plant on the mission field.

We are called to be in relationship with each other, and at times this is an ongoing process of reconciliation. We learn and grow as we exchange in unlikely friendships, and the light of God’s kingdom is able to shine in this unlikely encounters.

Worship is basically all that we are responding to all that He is. It is to be done both intimately and corporately. Living a life of praise involves full surrender. Jesus healed the ten lepers, but only one was made completely whole because of his act of worship.

Chaplain Holcomb moderates a dialogue between three urban pastors from Oklahoma City, each from distinct ethnic backgrounds. The discussion centers around how they are doing life and church together in order to be a true representation of Christ’s Kingdom lived out on earth. This collaborative Kingdom life model has moved from a hopeful aspiration to a true possibility as they journey together.

Through the practice of decisional forgiveness we see others as Christ does and have no other choice but to forgive. A spiritual muscle memory is developed as we practice forgiveness and reconciliation in the small daily decisions of life. Practicing forgiveness leads to the development of habitually saying yes to God’s way of loving and reconciling.

Reconciliation involves moves from knowing it is all about God, then responding to a God who loves us, and finally living out love and reconciliation with others. Reconciliation is hard work, but what we are called to do. Central in our story is the love of our Father, and as we learn His language of love we are to love and be reconciled with others.

Our lives become crowded with the worries of this world. Worrying creates a divided heart and inhibits our ability to hear and see God. Where is your gaze .. on the worries of life or on Jesus?

In his message on the mount, Jesus pushes the standard higher and higher to the point of a statement about living perfectly. Perfection is about loving as God loves – a boundary-breaking, cross-cultural type of love. As kingdom people are loves should stand in juxtaposition to how the world lives. We love the Lord our God will all of our heart, soul, mind, strength, and your neighbor as yourself.

Jesus is the complete fulfillment of all of the covenants made with our forefathers. King Jesus has ultimate authority and is the way, the truth and the life. Our posture in response to His kingship needs to be one of submission, as a student, giving allegiance to Him. As we lean into His teachings we are not left alone to fulfill the audacious perimeters … He takes us by the hand, walks with us, and empowers us. Through the fellowship of the Trinity the King is among us.

Living out the kingdom vision of Jesus is a life of dependence and trust, and it might mean we experience trials, suffering, giving up comfort, or lying down our lives. We know that He is with us through it all, and we are heading to a place where all injustices will be made right.

God conceived that His Kingdom would come to earth. Our lives must be transformed for us to live fully into that reality. Transformation happens when God’s Spirit is living and acting within us and we become an expression of the Kingdom.

Synopsis: In our culture and music we focus on the joyful side of the spiritual journey while neglecting the struggle, pain and suffering of our journey. When faced with exile in a difficult place we can either get-away, give-in, or lament which is trusting that God is ultimately sovereign. As people of God we cannot give up … we are called to seek the peace and prosperity of our current context by elevating the voices of the suffering, marginalized and hurting.

In order to dance together with God, for the purposes He has for our life, there needs to be intergenerational cooperation and collaboration. The world needs our unity so the power of God will come. Through the actions of mentoring, blessing and affirmation the work of the Spirit is unleashed in us and others.

It is both a blessing and a burden to say “yes” to God. God has impregnated each of us with a purpose and a call. Asking the question, “what does the world need from me right now?” will lead to finding His purpose for our life.

The Trinity is described as being held together by the unifying momentum of a dance, and we are invited into this rhythmic response in our spiritual journey. As we move in rhythm with the Trinity there is a Biblical mandate to be on the journey of reconciliation with others. Christ reconciled us and invited us into the Trinitarian dance and is calling us to reconcile and invite others to dance with us. The compelling message goes beyond justice and is a message of holiness.

In Jesus’ inaugural address – the Sermon on the Mount – He spoke of the Kingdom of God being here, yet not quite here. He calls us to prayer, daily and devotedly, for the Kingdom’s arrival to all. Until that time, like the lilies of the field we are not to worry, because God knows what we need; and we are to seek His kingdom first of all. In the midst of all that life brings, we find hope when we consider the lilies.
