A new large-scale development project has been proposed for an area smack within the South Street Seaport Historic District. Most of the proposed towers exceed the 120 square feet zoning height limits set for the Historic District, including one building at 1000 square feet. Naturally, there are many concerns about the integrity of the historic district. But wait, there’s more: community members are worried about some significant environmental issues--a common complaint we’ve heard on LFTC from numerous grass-roots organizations in other neighborhoods across the city. With me to discuss all of this is Michael Kramer, steering committee member of the Seaport Coalition andMegan Malvern, co-founder and parent organizer of Children First--which is a member of the Coalition.
