John Carter Brown Library - Indigenous Collection

The John Carter Brown Library Indigenous Language collection contains texts in one or more Amerindian languages for the period before the nineteenth century. This collection includes all identified books with native American languages–whether they contain a one-page vocabulary list or are entirely in or on an native American language. Besides the many grammatical studies, dictionaries, and thematic vocabulary lists, genres such as speeches, dramatic dialogues, scriptural excerpts, catechisms, ...

The preliminary licenses in Spanish reprint the "Parecer del M.R.P. Mtro. Fr. Nicolás de Andrade, del Orden de Predicadores de la Provincia de San Hipólito Martir de Oaxaca," of 1687 in which there is mention of Father Ripalda as the author of the original work. Ugarte lists all eds. of the Doctrina cristiana under Father Pacheco de Silva and makes no mention of Father Ripalda as the author

Father Muriel in his Latin translation of Charlevoix's Histoire du Paraguay, livre XIII, p 199, note 5, states that the real author of the "Relación" is P.
