Spawned in August of 1997, BUG has been breaking through the Baton Rouge's very diverse music scene ever since. Because of BUG's vast music abilities, they are able to play with many different bands and genres. All five members find a way to incorporate their own influences into the band's music. Chris, the hopeless romantic of the group, not only writes sappy love songs, but is also influenced by all sorts of music, mainly alternative and 60's rock&roll. He uses these influences to fuel his incredible song writing ability. As for John, he brings a harder edge because of his craving for throw-down, in-your-face metal. Brandon tacks on technical skills, a craving for perfect pitch, and a fat lead guitar with a crisp heavy edge and heavy bottom. Credit for the funky, rythmic groove goes to our bassist, Jonathan. He feeds himself on Primus and Victor Wooten, and still manages to keep the other four goofballs in line. Brian, with his kick drum fetish and lightning-fast drum rolls, provides a "backbone of beats" to complete the sound of BUG. Playing numerous house parties and small clubs, they were able to save up a little cash. Using this money and with a little help from Mr. Charlie, the boys were able to record a seven song demo CD. Since their CD release party on May 23rd, 1998, CD's have been selling faster than BUG can produce them. "Selling the merchandise is great because it lets us know just how much the fans appreciate us," says Jonathan, "but the driving force behind BUG are the live shows." The energy from the crowd and the sweat dripping off their bodies combined with the little unexpected things such as the dropping of drumsticks or picking up of picks give the guys from BUG a state of euphoria. With lyrics loaded with real-life situations and stories (except "concubine") there is a relevant message in all of the songs written by the band. Listeners can easliy relate to the words oozing from the mouths of Chris and John. Well, so far you've only heard about BUG. To fully understand and experience what BUG is about, you have to see and hear them perform!
