The band was founded winter 1995/96 by Risdal and Aarli, under the name Permafrost. We made some songs the first years, but nothing special happened until Rosseland joined in 1999, the same year we changed our name to Ancestral legacy.
2000: We released a 10-track demo-CD, filled with one hour of epic metal. We produced it ourselves, and all songs were selfmade too except a cover version of the Kari Rueslaatten song "The gathering".
2001: The band was completed with extra guitarist Thomas Bie and drummer Stefan Hammer Knutsen, but both left after a few month, the first due to school and the latter due to military service. We recorded one song with this line-up, Emptiness, to be included on the Norwegian Black metal-sampler "Svartmetall compilation" the same year.
2002: We recorded a new demo Feb/March, called "Emptiness", with 6 new songs + re-recorded versions of 3 from the last demo. As last time we produced it ourselves, but the quality of the production is way better because we now are more experienced with the equipment.
Our synthist quitted the band shortly after the release, and we had no plans for replacing him. Instead we wanted to take a new direction. Drummer Børre Iversen, vocalist Elin Anita Omholt and guitarist Tor Arvid Larsen joined later the same year to complete the line-up. Or almost complete, as our bassist lacked interest in rehearsals (especially sober), we found a new bassist in Anton Dead in spring 2003.
In April 2003 we released our third demo, called "Of magic illusions", containg 7 long songs + an intro. Not much later Ancestral Legacy played their debut concert, and there have been more through the year. A new demo-EP called November was (surprisingly) released in November this year.
