In Observation of National Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, the Groton Public Library is hosting a virtual informational meeting highlighting community organizations Safe Futures and the Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Eastern CT.
Nazmie Ojeda is the Director of Education and Community Engagement for Safe Futures. Nazmie is passionate about community work and has served on the advisory board of the Immigration Advocacy and Support Center (IASC) of New London, as well as a member of the Hispanic Alliance Mental Health Network. During her time at Safe Futures, she has served in several capacities such as counseling, advocate, and residential life. In her current role, Nazmie aspires to connect schools, providers, victims/survivors to Safe Futures and its mission and vision to save lives, restore hope, and change the future.
Vanessa Kendall is a Victim Advocate/ Crisis Counselor with the Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Eastern CT and has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. She primarily works with adult victims for counseling and accompaniment to hospitals, courts, and police stations in all of Eastern CT. She will share information about services the Sexual Assault Crisis Center of Eastern CT (SACCEC) provides to victims. She will also be discussing information about the Child Advocacy Center of Eastern CT as both agencies work together. Stats will also be provided on sexual assault in young adults and adults as well as talking about consent and the intersection of Domestic Violence and sexual assault and the importance of consent in partner relationships.
