Friday August 22nd, the Tarrytown Rotary Ducks were challenged by Tarrytown resident and Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Chamber past president, Terry McGlynn, to take the A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge.
Said, JoAnne Murray, "We were delighted to accept the Challenge to support A.L.S. and raise public awareness of A.L.S. (aka Lou Gehrig disease). Sleepy Hollow Tarrytown Community Channel spoke with Mrs. Mimi Godwin, Public Schools Board President. "Don Kusel, the former Superintendent of Public Schools of the Tarrytowns and former member of the Tarrytown Rotary Club died from A.L.S. and the Rotary wanted to do this in his honor."
The ALS Association is the only national non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The association provides research and assistance for people with this affliction.
The members of the Rotary Club of the Tarrytowns rallied to make a financial pledge to A.L.S. supporting the "A.L.S. Ice Bucket Challenge. Mrs. Godwin added, "We hope more people in the community will accept the A.L.S. Challenge and help spread the awareness of this terrible disease.
The Rotary Ducks nominated Tarrytown "Hope Hose" FireCompany to take the "Challenge." Tarrytown Fire Department Hope Hose members accept the Ducks challenge and line up up at the Tarrytown Fire Department under Ladder 37. Chief, Kelly Murphy addresses the crowd and challenges the Tarrytown Village Administrator, Michael Blau, Tarrytown Police Chief, Scott Brown and Sleepy Hollow, General Foreman, Richie Gross.
