Mayor Brocato is showing his support for a unique app that seeks to notify Americans when they may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus.
The GuideSafe Exposure Notification was created by a team of experts from UAB, the Alabama Department of Public Health, Google and Apple.
The app uses encrypted, anonymous codes exchanged via Bluetooth to alert users if they have been in close contact with someone who later reports a positive COVID-19 test, which is verified by ADPH. No personal information or location data is ever collected or shared, so no one know the user's identity or location, and the app won’t drain your phone battery.
Creators of the app say more than 100-thousand Alabamians have already downloaded it.
