Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, California.
Part of the videos from the Fredric Raichlen collection which contains footage of research, experiments and examples of tsunami research related to California. Fredric Raichlen, Professor Emeritus of Civil and Mechanical Engineering in Caltech's Division of Engineering and Applied Science taught at the California Institute of Technology in Southern California for forty years, formally retired from teaching in 2002, and remained active until 2014, working with colleagues, students and consultants almost to his last few weeks. Fredric Raichlen was an expert in coastal engineering and a pioneer in the studies of harbor excitation due to long waves and tsunamis. He worked as a consultant on many California coastal and civil engineering projects. Fredric Raichlen's studies of tsunami mechanics led to standards for designing tsunami-resistant structures that have saved lives around the world. Results of his research provided the profession with a fundamental understanding of tsunamis and a means of investigating harbor-ship dynamics in Southern California in an exploratory or preliminary manner.
