Animation Corps spring 1988, drawn-on-film loops set to music. Mostly black and white. This tape was made to play in the lobby of the museum to get people to come attempt the world record for longest drawn-on-film project. Itâs a collection of student animation from museum animation classes. Uses 16mm film, later transferred to 3/4" Umatic video.

The 202 Animation Corps class, led by Larry Lauria, Jim Strong and Dave Vallone in 1988. Animators each took a segment of the song and had predetermined spots to hand-off scenes to the next person. Some students didnât finish their sections, and some stand-by animation was used (the rice and chopsticks) to fill in. Willie Moore Pencil Tests. Fireball vs nightmare at start, then a pencil test of a film about a bully. I recall Willie bringing in huge piles of paper, and sitting at the stand for extended periods shooting everything. Willie did some of the most involved and complete drawn animation projects during my time at the Lab. He taught some classes there eventually. 1993? .... TV Studio had a camera and teleprompter in a room with a blue screen, the Fairlight for colorful digital effects, and a chromakey unit. A hodge podge of interesting early Animation Corps animation class work at CCM. Work was shot on Sony 8mm videos by pausing and unpausing the recorder. Samuel Willmott, age 5.5. and Darren Wheeling completed this nearly 10-minute retelling of the classic story. Sam wrote, directed, and illustrated, and the two of them animated it, completing the project in August 1992. Sidwell Friends school would come by the Animation Lab for their mini-mester each year for many years. This says 1994 on the box. Some flipbooks, and some cartoons - The Paint Ball War, Killer Watermelon, and Low Budget Man. Students include Joey Frank, Mike Gallant, Nick Goodbody, Jeremy Oldfield, Devin Mahoney, Jamie Gardner, Penda Dickey.

Cyclone II. Final project by Christopher Grotke for an Animation Corps animation class taught by Larry Lauria, Dave Vallone, and Jim Strong. (I got to take the class for free in exchange for helping to set-up, assist, and tear-down the cameraâs, tripods, and light boards. A first step toward running the Media Arts department at the museum - the proverbial foot in the door.) Shot using a Sony 8mm video camera on a tripod.

David Cook worked with Darren Wheeling to create Robot Bumblebee: Back Beyond Keon. Written by David Cook. 1993. (I love the Robot Bumblebee series, and this one is exceptional.) Ron is after Keon, so Robot Bumblebee and friends have to help him get back to the past. Linda Cook and Jonathan Perry-Giles did voices. David was age 8, and this number 3 in the series. Master tape.
