Twelfth day: January 7
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and French President Nicolas Sarkozy presented a plan for a ceasefire between the parties, which was sponsored by several countries and international organizations. Israel stated that "there is an agreement on the principles but they still have to be translated into practice", while Hamas declared that the presented plan "is still under discussion."
The Government of Israel expressed its intention to stop its attacks every day between 11:00 and 14:00 GMT to allow access of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population; Hamas announced hours later that it would stop rocket fire at Israel in the same time interval. The Palestinian population would take advantage of this time interval to stockpile basic products.
