Wide Field producer, Vivian Kobusingye Birchall chats with fellow African Immigrant, Rebkha Atnafou about Thanksgiving experiences in the United States in comparison to holiday experiences in communities where they come from in Africa.
Rebkha is Founder and CEO, RnD Associates and RDAssociates Africa. Johns Hopkins University: Associate Director, Bunting Neighborhood Leadership Program, Affiliated Faculty Member of Bloomberg American Health Initiative, Faculty Advisor to Africa Business Club, and Research Associate.
She established RnD Associates in the U.S. and RDAssociates Africa in Ethiopia, as human capacity building organizations to strengthen the knowledge and skills of professions to build more vibrant, healthy and safe communities. In addition, she wears several hats at Johns Hopkins University as Associate Director, Bunting Neighborhood Leadership Program, Affiliated Faculty Member of Bloomberg American Health Initiative, Faculty Advisor to Africa Business Club, and Research Associate. Rebkha’s professional experience and interest include authentic community engagement to address socio-cultural barriers to health, education & safety, leadership development, women empowerment, diaspora engagement, mentoring, and systems thinking and capacity building, and bridging the gap between research and practice. Rebkha immigrated from Ethiopia while in her teens.
