>> breaking overnight in northern virginia several homes in flames leaving a dozen people and their pets homeless. we're live on the scene in manassas. >> live look outside on this thursday morning. it is june 8th. weather and traffic coming up for you on the 5s. beautiful start to the day, my goodness. weather and traffic at 6:05. good morning. i'm allison seymour. >> and i'm steve chenevey. we talk about how bright it is out there this morning. >> i know, right. >> capitol dome illuminated in sunlight at 6:00 a.m. first up at 6:00 almost one month to the day president trump fired james comey the former director will go before congress to give his first spoken account of the matter. >> written testimony has been released to provide a glimpse into what he'll tell congress k allies and critics already picking it apart. fox5's melanie alnwick is live on the hill with the latest now. good morning. >> reporter: hey, good mgoodmorning, guys. this written testimony providing quite the preview. it certainly is let's say an interesting read. some people say some of the

evidence of obstruction of justice while others say a few statements are supportive of the president. president trump demanded and expected loyalty and attempted to persuade the now former fbi director to back off of an investigation of his national security adviser michael flynn's alleged ties to russia. that from the seven pages of written testimony james comey submitted to the senate intelligence committee prior to today's hearing. for critics it's proof the president tried to interfere with a criminal investigation but for supporters, it shows a president who may have that walked up to the line but didn't cross it. >> i wish him luck. thank you, everybody. >> reporter: president trump is said to feel vindicated by comey's written testimony according to his personal attorney "the president is pleased that mr. comey has finally public confirmed his private reports that the president was not under investigation in any russia probe"

>> ♪ >> developing overnight in northern virginia fire damages several townhomes in a manassas neighborhood. >> fox5's annie yu live on the scene with more this morning. good morning, annie. >> reporter: hey, steve and allison. this became a rescue after a firefighter became trapped inside while fighting the fire. a second firefighter had to rescue him. both are at a hospital right now receiving treatment for burns. but we're told they are expected to be okay. that is the good news. as mentioned about 12 people have been displaced by this intense fire this early morning and it is remarkable that all 12 were able to self evacuate, no major injuries here so that is the good news but if you look behind me, there is extensive today. we're talking about a total of six homes that were damaged, four of them a total loss. still a very active scene out here some six hours later. they got that 911 call around on

most were sleeping but all were able to self evacuate. 70 firefighters to help out. this is the 10,900 block of pope street right in manassas. six homes damaged, four of them total losses. we were able to get our hands on home surveillance video that i want to show you from a next door neighbor and you can just see how seriously intense this fire was, just flames shooting out of the back of this home. so, what they're doing is after they got the bulk of the fire out, they're working on hot spots and flareups now. they're going to be out here for the next four to six hours working on that. once all t that's done investigators will check out the structural integrity of the homes. a lot of homeowners we talked to are anxious to get inside and retrieve everything they can. we're told firefighters are doing the best they can right now to salvage what they can for these homeowners. a lot of them standing around and waiting. we have several pets displaced. we have doz

multiple pets displaced but overall most people in good spirits but again, no injuries, that's the biggest headline other than the two firefighters and we're told they're expected to be okay. back to you in the studio. >> annie thank you very much. 6:05. this morning still no arrest made in the murder of two high school seniors in montgomery county. both killed the day before they were supposed to graduate from northwest high in germantown. te teens were reportedly selling extra tickets to their graduation ceremony when they were shot. sources tell fox5 one victim was found with less than $50 cash in his hands. >> ♪ >> 6:05. hey, tucker, good morning. >> good morning. until slittle snug this morning. >> that's the dry cleaners. >> do you think that's what it is. >> i know that's what it is. >> it's cool out there. we got 40's across parts of the area and even here in the city, 56 at reagan national. that's pretty

build right now. just about a 10 minute slow down. no crashes. but we'll let you know if that changes. inner loop still looking pretty pleasant from the 270 spur over to baltimore-washington parkway. but again, slowdowns popping up on that outer loop side. this is 95 northbound at garrisonville road as you come from fredericksburg. keep in mind you'll hit a slowdown much we have a disabled vehicle north of this point taking out the right lane. slows by courthouse road in stafford. and then again through dale city about a five minute delay. let's take a look at our maps. we have a crash inbound 50 at 295. also keep in mind 295 from 50 down past pennsylvania avenue about a seven minute slowdown right now with some heavier volume. other than that that things outside the beltway on 50 looking good from the bay bridge through annapolis this morning. no issues. in southern maryland things waking up a bit. five at 301 split from brandywine you jam up a little bit through clinton with volume and 210 northbound heading towards oxon hill on the beltway looking a little bit more jammed up because of that typical morning rush. good n

beltway inner loop still quiet from branch avenue to across the wilson bridge. i'll let you know if that changes. that little yellow blip that's what we saw from skyfox that slowdown picking up. 95 route one and bw parkway still quiet. 270 on the southbound side volume is picking up, light volume as you make your way to the beltway. really from 70 down through clarksburg. it's only about a 10 minute delay. no major issues just yet. metro is on time except for safetrack. that's slowing down the orange line but express shuttle service is available allison and steve. >> polls are opened across britain this morning following a campaign dominated by recent terror attacks. >> plus, game three of the nba finals. now this one actually was a nail-biter but was the result the same? that's a clue. one of the cavs players blaming hackers for a postgame tweet. we'll fill you in coming up next. >> ♪ ♪♪

exercises with south korea. >> new this morning a prison riot in northern mexico left seven people dead, three police officers and four inmates were killed after an hour long gun battle. the prison has been dominated by a violent drug cartel considered to be one of the worst in mexico. >> polling stations across britain opened this morning in an election to choose a new government. all 650 seats in the house of commons up for grabs. prime minister theresa may called for this early election in hopes of increasing the slim majority her conservative party holds right now. investors also keeping a close eye on the votes to see who will lead britain in brexit negotiations. >> greg gianforte accused of body slamming a reporter has issued a formal apology letter to that journalist. he pledged to donate $50,000 to a committee to protect journalists. the incident happened last month on the eve of the election. jean for the still has to appear in court later this month to face a misdemeanor assault charge in the case. >> jury in the bill cosby

hear from cosby himself even if he doesn't take the stand. prosecutors are expected to show jurors an earlier deposition in which cosby said he routinely gave women pills and alcohol before sexual encounters. and gave at least one of them quaaludes which is now a banned sedative. yesterday jurors heard from the woman at the center of this trial, andrea constand for the second straight day. >> the government contractor accused of leaking a secret nsa report to the media is due in court today for a bond hearing. her name system reality winner. and she remains in federal custody after she was arrested in georgia on saturday. the department of justice has charged the 25-year-old with sending highly classified material from a government facility to the online news site the intercept. >> overnight, this rapper slammed to the ground while performing in san diego last night. and you could see a man just rush the stage and punch him. knocking him down. securityui

we get up and out the door this morning. got a new clouds off to our south and east and a storm system that will be developing along the carolina coast here. this will be pushing out to sea. we'll have clouds around today and we're still under the influence of that area of high pressure that was off to our north giving us that easterly wind yesterday. so, temperatures will be as mentioned a few degrees below normal, mid 70's, kind of a partly sunny day but i think we'll get more sunshine than yesterday and still low humidity. dewpoints right now are in the 40's and very comfortable air so nice and dry out there with that area of high pressure. all right, area of low pressure scoots out to sea and we'll keep temperatures in the 70's. back near the 80, low 80's tomorrow and then we're really going to start to build the heat around here for the weekend. get ready. i mean, it's going to be a beautiful looking weekend but it will be a hot weekend. about 90 on saturday and then here come the mid 90's. heat index 100 plus sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday, particularly monday, tuesday and perhaps into wednesday as we

well. so erin it's like weather and traffic, heat and humidity. >> good comparison. >> yeah. >> you know what, i'm in the best mood today. >> do share. >> i don't know, just i woke up happy its summertime. >> really. >> it's national best friends day so you and steve should celebrate. >> did you hear that, steve. >> let's celebrate. >> i'll let them celebrate while i report traffic. outer loop 95 to georgia avenue a 10 minute delay with stop-and-go traffic from congestion. inner loop looks pretty nice from 270 over and we'll move things over to a look 95 in virginia out by garrisonville road. northbound side brake lights there just north of that point there's a disabled vehicle. it's moved over to the shoulder so we have a little bit of a slow roll coming up from fredericksburg into stafford. just be prepared for that normal morning congestion. then again you hit that slow zone through dale city. we're also seeing a slowdown on 295 southbound from visit to the 11th street bridge. inbound 50 crash blocks the shoulder at 295. we're backed and through cheverly toward 295. typical congestion and then that crash scene as well.

we're looking pretty good. usual volume toward clinton on the northbound side at the 301 split from that brandywine on up. other than that we're looking pretty good on the beltway. not seeing any problems on the -- look at that red zone now. you saw skyfox it had just gotten heavy in terms of volutivolume since my last repo. in kensington we're problem free. silver spring, bethesda potomac looking good on our secondaries. just volume that is light coming from 70 down through urbana this morning. about a 10 minute delay. 66 eastbound jams up past sudley road. also if you're taking the rails metro is on time except for safetrack. but express shuttle service is available for that orange line slowdown. back to you allison and steve. >> if you're sick of the traffic nightmare in northeast d.c. caused by a new chick-fil-a there will be a community meeting to and night. it's being held at miner elementary school at 7:00 p.m. ddot plans to address residents on wha

do to fix the traffic issue since that new chick-fil-a opened there had been gridlock surround the 1400 block of maryland avenue in northeast. it's so congested there that a police officer is directing traffic entering and exiting the drive through. >> put out a press release saying we're trying to make this better. happening today in northern virginia governor terry mcauliffe will be in herndon signing a ceremonial bill that would pave the way for wireless carriers to bring 5g internet speeds to virginia that is supposedly up to 100 times faster than speeds currently available, new innovation for cities and businesses. officials say it would bring millions of dollars into the state and create new jobs. bright and early opening for some bars in d.c. today. now, it's a little bit like tailgating for politics. >> right. >> looking to cash in ahead of the comey testimony on the hill. what they're offering to get you in the door. >> only in d.c., right? >> pretty sure. >> only in d.c. plus, it's not looking good for the cavaliers and why jr smith hasom

5s at 6:30. today former fbi director james comey heads to capitol hill. he'll testify before the senate intelligence committee. he's expected to testify about his private meetings with president donald trump. in his written testimony comey claims he was so uncomfortable with what the president was telling him in private meetings that he tried to never be alone with him. the hearing begins at 10:00 this morning. and stay with fox5. we will have complete coverage of james comey's testimony on capitol hill. we'll broadcast the hearing on fox5 beginning at 10:00 a.m. you can also watch it live on our fox5 d.c. facebook page as well as our youtube channel. also on and the fox5 news app. developing overnight here locally in prince william county two firefighters injured after fighting a massive fire in a townhome in manassas. the fire so intense six townhomes are damaged. fire crews still out there looking for hot spots. as for the two firefighters that were injured, they were taken to the hospital for nonlife-threatening

a 20-year-old man from catonsville maryland is behind bars accused of trying to run over a natural resources officer. this happened tuesday night in a parking area at valley state park. that officer did go to the hospital but was later released. in just a few days, it will no longer be free to park along the national mall. as if we could get any of those spots anyway, right. but meters will be installed today. it's happening at 10:00 this morning. the meter program will be activated this monday june 12th so enjoy the last weekend of free mall parking. steve, over to you. hey, could you ever get one of those spots, steve, on the national mall. >> for softball games at like 7:00 in the long. not looking good for lebron and the cavaliers. it was competitive at least. this came down to the last minute of the game and that was the first

competitive game. this one in cleveland last night. late in the fourth three minutes to go, cavs up by six. golden state rallies. kevin durant ails a go ahead 3-pointer just 45 seconds left in the game. after cleveland had been up. final score 118-113, the warriors scored the last 11 points of the game. cleveland had been up 113 to 107. kevin durant finished with 31 p31points. khayree irving scored 38 for the cavs. >> it definitely hurts. you know, i'm human as well as my teammates. you want to come out on the winning side but, you know, we gave a great effort and, you know, there's -- the results just didn't turn out the way we wanted to. >> i don't want to prelacks or feel like is

great. sunshine and -- you know what, we'll get a little more sunshine than yesterday. should be a partly sunny day today and a dry afternoon and temperatures in the mid 70's later. few clouds here off to our south and east and there's a very strong area of low pressure that will be pushing off the coast here. you can see all the rain down in the carolinas. all of this will be pushed out to sea. and we'll be left with, again, partly sunny conditions. still dealing with that area high pressure and upper level low that gave us quiet conditions and the relatively cool conditions yesterday. highs in the mid 70's for us today. that area of low pressure gets on out of here. all right. as we get into the weekend, we're going to build what we call the bermuda high. it will sc scoot out here and st up shop. upper 80's on saturday and look out by sunday afternoon, we'll be well into the 90's and the 90's will be here to stay. it will be stifling hot with a heat index near 100 by monday, tuesday, wednesday and our daytime highs in the mid 90's. overnight lows in the 7
