joining us for wsls 10 at seven. i'm lindsey ward. and i'm dawn jefferies. it's been two days since the e- f-3 tornado touched down in appomattox county ... bringing with it winds up to 165-miles-per- hour. the damage is extensive ... and today ... families ... emergency crews ... and volunteers are lending their support to those in need. storm team ten chief meteorologist jeff haniewich is on the ground in evergreen toured the devastation today ... he has the latest on the

public safety agencies like the national guard are planning their roles in the cleanup after governor terry mcauliffe declared a state of emergency wednesday following the tornadoes that touched down across the commonwealth. wsls ten's rachel lucas has more on how soldiers are helping in appomattox county. there is still a lot of work to be done, a lot of debris, downed trees. it's going to take a while l but i can tell you we have been here since early yesterday morning and in that time a lot of progress has been made.. and the national guard has really made a difference. vo we have had a lot of great volunteer groups but there's been a lot of heavy lifting and that she needed to be done. since governor terry mcauliffe declared a

the national guard to be activated and sent here to help with the cleanup i followed some of the soldiers around today is that he hoped various homeowners do work that they never would've never been able to do on their oh no. and i think it's certainly lift the spirits of those who is desperately needed help. sot cont vo in all there are little more than 50 soldiers here. they brought their humvees chainsaws other equipment that's really help you get a lot of this work done. now for a check of the weather. storm team ten meteorologist jonathan kegges joins us now ... jonathan ... sunshine and eventually warmth will dominate the upcoming weekend. after a day in the 40s with wall to wall sunshine by the afternoon on saturday, we crank up the thermostat to the low to mid 60s on sunday. tonight: partly clear with lows

saturday: mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 40s. sunday: mostly sunny and warm with highs in the low to mid 60s. the relative warmth continues through the support for the victims of wednesday's deadly tornado grows ... as the cleanup gets underway in evergreen. this morning ... god's pit crew in danville brought water, gatorade, toiletries, and non-perishable food items to those who needed them. the non-profit's operations manager says the community support has been overwhelming ... but it's sad to see so many people in our area in need. local students are also joining the efforts. a team of liberty university students is in appomattox helping in the clean up. it's part of a new school program called "l-u send now" where students are mobilized to help in the wake of disaster. a team of students is also heading to flint, michigan. their job is to install water filters in homes following the

meanwhile ... several organizations are collecting bottles of water ... to help residents in flint. the omega psi phi fraternity has collected more than 15- hundred cases of water. the pilgrim baptist church donated more than 11-thousand bottles of water and sweet union baptist church donated six thousand bottles. god's pit crew will pick up all the cases of water next saturday. mike hamlar/chairman of operation of flint project "we build bridges and we were sitting here and we were thinking what could we do to help the community. granted it's in flint but they need it. if you'd like to help ... you can donate bottles of water at the cave spring corners kroger th is saturday ... from 10 a-m ... to 1 p-m law enforcement agencies are cracking down on red light runners across the roanoke valley. it's part of an effort by the blue ridge transportation safety board. police are patrolling problem areas to warn drivers

wsls ten's duke carter has more on the initiative. we took a ride with roanoke city police officers earlier this afternoon and they have bumped up patrols --- esepcially along this busy street --- orange avenue. vo rick clark is a traffic safety officer with ronaoke city police department. he says city officers are working with ronaoke county as well as blacksburg and christiansburg to get people aware of not running red lights. clark says it's important people know that when they run red lights they're taking the risk of harming or even killing the other driver. sot "what do people normally do when they try to beat the light, they speed up, you got a car that's pulling out into the intersection you have all that exposed passenger compartment area so that's the first part that gets hit, that's why running red lights is so dangerous because it's not usually the person who is running the red light that's hurt it's the individual who is the victim." cont vo a new triple-a study finds about ninety- four percent of people surveyed say it's unacceptable to run red lights. duke but that same survey also found.. more than one in three

light in the past thirty days. officers say if you run a red light tonight, you will be stopped. in roanoke duke carter wsls ten. a woman is charged after allegedly transferring guns to a man who opened fire at his workplace ... killing 3 people and injuring 14 others. sarah hopkins is charged with one count of knowingly transferring a firearm to a convicted felon. police say the alleged gunman ... cedric ford shot two people ... stole a car and drove to the excel industries plant where he continued shooting. ford was served with a protective order filed by his girlfriend hours before the shooting. ford was killed during a shootout with officers. a ceremony marks 23-years since the world trade center bombing that killed six people and injured more than a thousand others. a truck bomb exploded below the world trade center's north tower in february 19-93. the names of the six victims were

commemoration attended by victims' relatives and friends. anthony shorris/first deputy mayor of new york city - today the world comes to the world trade center to remember what and who we lost, but also to remember what we found...courage ...strength...fait h. the bombing was one of the worst terrorist attacks in u.s. history at the time. it was overshadowed by the september 11-th attacks when terrorists hijacked airplanes to destroy the towers and kill nearly 3- thousand people. things heating up down south as the democratic presidential candidates gear up for this weekend's primary ... hillary clinton and bernie sanders face off saturday in south carolina. some polls in the state have clinton leading sanders by as much as 50 points. while campaigning today ... clinton spoke about gun control. the party frontrunner says she supports president obama's executive action proposal and closing gun show loopholes.

roanoke today. roanoke college released a pre- super tuesday poll showing donald trump and hilary clinton projected to be landslide winners in virginia. professor harry wilson says on the republican side, that means the focus will turn to trump's challengers. one of those, marco rubio, will campaign at the college sunday night. harry wilson, director of the institute for policy and research: 00:05:22 "if at this point in time trump is going to be stopped, somebody needs to emerge as the challenger to trump, not 3 or 4 other challengers to trump, so there has to be some consolidation of that field, and if there isn't, those candidates just continue to split all those votes." wilson says clinton is expected to win on the democratic side by 17 points. he says clinton's new roanoke office may indicate she's already preparing for the general election. in a public ceremony today ... john fishwick was honored for his new role as u-s attorney for the western district of virginia.

rehabilitation facility in the valley to invest in this new technology. wsls10's christina craig learned it's doing wonders for amputee patients. step by step...70-year- old beatrice hughes gains back her strength with the help of this anti-gravity treadmill. 7-18 "when i talked to the doctor and he told me you have got one of two options. he said we can take your leg and we can treat you with an antibiotic or we can consider the amputation. my exact words to him were 'cut it off'." problems started for hughes this summer when she experienced a stroke and broke her ankle. then it became infected. after a month of intolerable pain, she made the choice for doctors to amputate her leg. now, with a new limb that just doesn't feel like her own...the alter g anti- gravity treadmill at the springtree health and rehab center is teaching hughes how to adjust.

johnny manziel's domestic violence case is referred to a grand jury. the cleveland browns quarterback will now have to answer questions in court ... regarding allegations about an attack on his ex- girlfriend late last month. according to reports ... colleen crowley claims manziel confronted her at a hotel ... hit her ... and threatened her life. manziel could face up to one year in jail and a four-thousand dollar fine if charged and convicted. one of the rarest of all the beatles records will be auctioned off next month. it was the band's first to be pressed and helped them get a record contract. the song 'hello little girl' is on one side and 'till there was you' on the other. the disc was found in the home of an english pianist. omega auctions will auction off the record next month. it's expected to sell for more than 14-thousand dollars. here's what you can expect to
