he stepped into save a young girl's life but he may have put his own health at risk along the way. tonight officials are searching for good samaritan who may have been exposed to rabies after fighting off a diseased racoon attacking a little girl. a saturday night. i'm walter perez. big story on "action news" is a rabies warning in montgomery county. health officials are trying to track down a good samaritan who may have been exposed to rabies when he he stopped to save a youngster. "action news" reporter jeff chirico is live at gladwynn elementary school with the details, jeff? >> reporter: walter, this is where that young girl started her, walk from school, to home on thursday have afternoon. now she is going to be fine, officials say she's under going a series of treatments right the now and now health officials want to make sure the man who saved her was not exposed to the rabies virus. the girl was walking home from school along the bridal ridal trail yesterday afternoon when
a racoon a attacked biting her leg. the montgomery county commissioner doctor valerie said a good samaritan happened ton driving by at the same time. >> stopped his car, had a hockey stick in his trunk which he got the out and used to hit the a animal, the racoon, until it detached from the girl. which was wonderful, of him to do that. then he drove her home. >> reporter: animal control captured the racoon in the woods and tests revealed it was rabid. the girl received vaccines and is expected to be okay. but county health officials want to talk with the man to make sure that he was not exposed to the rabies virus as well. >> incubation period for rabies could be from days to weeks. so the person, should not think that because they are feeling fine today that they were not exposed. it the is very important that medical officials have a chance to talk to the gentlemen. >> and, she says that there is a very small chance he could have been exposed to the rabies virus even if he was
not bitten. they asked him to call the montgomery county health department. we are live from gladwynn, jeff chirico for channel six "action news". >> thanks, jeff. from our new jersey news room fire crews battled a three alarm fire in millville. the it happened just before 6:30 on the 500 block of south second street at gill bear's tavern which was in the opened for business at the time. officials a say one person was rescued, and is doing okay tonight, and no word if anyone was injured or how the fire started. a 12 year-old is being remembered as a hero tonight after losing his life trying to save his fatter from a fire. that fire broke out at his home in norristown early yesterday morning at markly and wayne avenue. officials say victim's mother got five of her children out. the 12 year-old sanford harling went back into rescue his father whom he believed was trapped on the second floor, but had actually jumped from a window safely. a cabdriver is hospitalized tonight after he was shot during a robbery attempt overnight. investigators say he pick up three passengers, two of whom
pulled out guns. just after 3:00 this morning the passengers got in the cab at luk oil at broad and wharton in the point breeze section of the city. two pulled out guns and demanded money. the driver was shot in the arm but kept on driving but the suspect still in the back seat. he finally crashed into several parked cars and the suspect escaped. the driver is now hospitalized in stable condition, the suspects remain on the loose. well, police in south while hall township are searching for these people wanted for trespassing at dorney park in allentown. investigators say the four climbed 200 feet to the top of the dominator roller coaster and stole a large dorney park flag. anyone with any information is asked to please call the police. moving on to the accu weather forecast now we're enjoying a very pleasant weekend for february but the threat of some snow is in the forecast, for the week ahead. meteorologist melissa a magee has our first check of the accu weather forecast, hi there, melissa. >> hi there walter. we had a nice start to the weekend with highs in the lower 40's. a tad above average.
