storm..sharon - how are people coping with no power? 3 trying to stay in a home without power is difficult.not only are they in the dark at night - but that's also when its the coldest.so - people went searching for kerosene heaters and motels to stay warm.3 3 3 3 fierce and powerful winds caused a large limb to break off this tree.its branches crashed straight through this laurens county home. home.(55227) 9:54:23 "landed on top of my house. we had a big limb that went through the house and made two big holes- probably one six by ten, one six by six."the branch knocked out power and shorted the

3 in a developing story 3 a new filing tonight - in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the death of clemson student tucker hipps. hipps.you'll recall the 19 year old died in september of 2014 while on an early morning run with his fraternity brothers.that fraternity - sigma phi epsilon filed a response to the hipps family's wrongful death lawsuit - and they're denying any responsibility for tucker's death. death.the fraternity denies hipps' fall, injuries and death from the highway 93 bridge over lake hartwell was caused by fraternity brothers' gross negligence and recklessness, and that any injuries or damages sustainedwere caused by hipps' - quote "own negligence and comparative fault" sig ep also denies clemson had investigated numerous violations of the student conduct code by the local chapter in the fall semester
fraternity did confirm tucker was elected pledge class president- they went on to deny dozens of other allegations that hipps' family has made. made.the wrongful death lawsuit seeks more than $25 million in damages against clemson university, the fraternity and some of its members.no criminal charges have ever been filed in hipps' death. 3 fox carolina is continuing to cover our counties 3 in greenville county, the city of mauldin is moving forward with a plan to fix the traffic issues plaguing east butler road. road.city council approved a corridor plan at its last meeting -the proposal develops minor road improvements for the commercial area - in place of a five lane roadway proposed by dot. dot.under the east butler corridor plan - the city would make intersection improvements - as well as realigning old mill road and owens lane - along with widening murray drive at owens lane.the proposal also calls for bicycle and pedestrian improvements.the city's economic development planner
growth in the area every year for the next 20 years - and that this plan would help accommodate future traffic through 2040. 3 also in spartanburg county- deputies are searching for a man they say- cloned credit cards- and made more than 1- thousand dollars in purchases in the upstate. upstate.this is their suspect...but they need help identifying him.they say he is tied to a string of thefts including a recent one at the walgreen's in spartanburg. authorities say- the man used a cloned card- and purchased more than 500-dollars in merchandise. 3 deputies say- the suspect- also used a fake credit card at red lobster in spartanburg and at a walgreen's in greenville county two weeks ago. the charges totaled more than 500-dollars. 3 if you have seen or know who this man-you are asked to call crime stoppers at 1-888-crime-sc 3 greenville police are issuing a warning about a phone scam involving a caller posing as an i-r-s agent -- hoping more victims don't fall prey! prey!police say they've gotten

now to some new information 3 the flu vaccine- is doing a better job this year- compared to last year. 3 preliminary data says the vaccine is more-effective this year. the report comes from a committee-that reports to the c-d-c. they say the vaccine is a better match to the strains that are making people sick. you'll recall last year - the flu vaccine was far less effective because the virus had mutated.that led the cdc to declare an epidemic - but so far this year - the flu season has been notably slow. the comittee's report also says-doctors no longer need to watch patients 30-minutes
