airport. aviation authorities say the plane declared an emergency shortly before the crash because of an electrical failure. members of a brazilian soccer team were among the 81 on board.. 6 survivors have been found. in national headlines this morning.. classes are scheduled to resume at ohio state university... after 11 people were injured in a car-and-knife attack on-campus yesterday. authorities say abdul razak ali artan -- a somali- born student -- plowed his car campus monday morning. the suspect then got out of his car and began stabbing people with a butcher knife before he was shot and killed by a campus police officer. investigators are looking into whether it was an act of terror. the motive is still unclear. most people first heard about the attack when o-s-u police tweeted out an alert to students.. it read in part... "active shooter on campus. run hide fight." those

department of homeland security. first, run if you can.. and leave all of your things behind. if you can't leave, you should hide.. block the doors and silence your phones. then.. at last resort.. fight back. campus security across the country -- including right here at u-n-l-v -- tightened up after the attack at o-s- u. school police say just because they've never had to deal with an active shooter situation.. doesn't mean they are not prepared. u-n-l-v police say they go through at least a dozen seminars and 2 active shooters simulations every year. some students say the officers' visible presence made them feel more comfortable on monday. "surprisingly, i felt very safe here on this campus. i mean, i don't know, i can't speak for everyone but i know i definitely feel safe walking around here even at night. i have a class at night." the police ask everyone near campus to stay alert and if you see something, say something. first it was thanksgiving.. also known as "gray thursday." after that was "black friday."

cuts and no accounting for expenses like gas, repairs and insurance. and heres a live look of the strip.. where valley fast food workers are already joining in on the national strike. the demonstration started about an hour ago.. and another is planned at 5 tonight. the "fight for 15" group says it will be their most "disrputive protest yet" to show they won't back down in the face of newly elected politicians. hundreds of workers at chicago o'hare international airport are striking today. janitors, baggage handlers, cabin cleaners and wheelchair attendants are among those asking for a 15- dollar hourly wage. right now -- some make 10-50 an hour, which is the minimum wage in chicago. the chicago department of aviation said it does not believe the work stoppage will affect flights in or out of the nation's second busiest airport.

cancelled today because of a lufthansa strike. some pilots, who have been in a pay dispute for more than 2 years, walked off the job 4 days last week. the german airlines says it's scrapped 816 flights today.. and another 890 that were scheduled for tomorrow. thousands of cowboys and cowgirls are excpected to visit vegas this week.. for the wrangler national finals rodeo. the 10-day event kicks off at the thomas and mack center on thursday. the rodeo features competitions in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding. it's the 32-nd annual n-f-r. climate change is

patrol trooper. now... an internal and criminal investigation is underway. the mcdonald's franchise owners released a statement -- saying they are shocked by the former employee's actions and proudly support law enforcement officers. a double amputee is inspiring others to shoot for the stars, no matter the challenges. this is 15-year-old jahkee johnson. he was born with a rare disease that caused both his legs to be amputated... below the knee... when he was a child. today...the 9th grader is the star of his georgia high school marching band. jahkee says he doesn't see his condition as a disability. instead, he sees it as an inspiration to keep going. 'we were practicing, and everyone was shocked, but they started to see and treated me usual, like i was still a normal person."

in international headlines this morning.. cuba continues to bid longtime leader fidel castro farewell. schools and government offices will be closed today.. for a second day of mourning to president who died on friday at the age of 90. tomorrow.. castro's ashes will begin a 3-day procession across cuba.. retracing the path of his bearded rebel army from the sierra maestra to the capital. his remains will be placed at a cemetery in santiago de cuba on sunday. in the wake of fidel castro's death.. the first scheduled commercial flight from the u-s to havana in more than 50 years landed monday. passengers arrived during an official 9-day

jill stein wants to take a closer look at the votes collected in some states.. the former green party presidential candidate is pushing for a recount in pennsylvania, wisconsin and michigan. the wisconsin elections commission says it will start as early as thursday. federal law maintains the tally needs to be complete by december 13th. stein says recounts are needed to quote "build trust in our election system." stein: "this is something you cannot see unless you actually count the ballots... so unless we actually look, we will never know."

friends and classmates to give up one thing for a day and use that money to help others. people are posting pictures of the things they've given with the hashtag "my sacrifice for the day." it can be anything, even if it's something simple like a cup of coffee or lunch. the student is a navy veteran herself so she says she understands the struggles vets face. tomorrow.. castro's ashes will begin a 3-day procession across cuba.. retracing the path of his bearded rebel army from the sierra maestra to the capital. his remains will be placed at a cemetery in santiago de cuba on sunday. in the wake of fidel castro's death.. the first scheduled commercial flight from the u-s to havana in more than 50 years landed monday. passengers arrived during an official 9-day mourning period, as cubans packed havana's "plaza of the revolution" to pay homage to castro. several airlines began routes to other cuban cities earlier this year. a jetblue flight arrived in havana from new york late last night. the world's fastest growing airline just added las vegas as a destination city. qatar airways flies to more than 150 destinations across 6 continents. las vegas now joins 7 other new destinations, like australia, dublin- ireland and rio de janiero among others.
