a woman was taken into custody after a stand off with swat officers overnight.. metro says just before 7.. the woman was in her apartment near mccarran airport on maryland with another woman and a man. she fired 2 shots inside.. then went outside and fired police say she went back inside and refused to come out. eventually... swat was able to go in and arrest her. no one was injured and neighbors returned home early this morning. we are one step closer to getting an n-f-l team here in las vegas.. clark county commissioners approved the hotel tax that would fund a stadium. fox5's alyssa deitsch joins us now live in studio... but alyssa-- we're not the only city making moves to get the raiders..

oakland are now having meetings to see what they can do to keep the team there. and while they are at the beginning stages... here-- we now know officially where a big chunk of the proposed one-point-nine billion dollar stadium would come from. commissioners yesterday approved a tax increase of about one-point-four percent for rooms on the resort corridor... and a half- percent increase to hotels off the strip to fund 750 million dollars for the proposed raiders stadium. whether the raiders come to las vegas or not... county commission chairman steve sisolak says that tax increase will still be a big win for the community. but not everybody at the meeting was happy about where that money is going. public comment: it's amazing that everyone was abole to find 750m to go to a stadium but can't seem to find 750m to go to our deteriorating education system here steve sisolak: i think the turn is pretty good, the public is going to get 35m a year in economic benefit to both the county and state governments 750-million for the stadium would

another 600- million would come from the adelson family-- and 500-million would come from the raiders. commissioners also appointed people to serve on the stadium authority--which would be in charge of the stadium's location, development plans, and operation agreements. but there is a new push in the bay area to keep the raiders in oakland... k-g-o is reporting city and county officials there will soon consider an offer on a land deal by a group headed by former nfl player and raider ronnie lott... if they reach a deal on the land... that could pave the way for lott's group to negotiate a stadium deal to keep the raiders. this news comes as multiple media outlets reported over the weekend nfl owners want the team to stay in oakland. the clark county board of commissioners also voted to get more cops on the strip.

valley will need to be raised to make it happen.. a point-zero-one percent increase will raise enough money for 68 new officers. mike doria was at the meeting.. he'll break down all the changes for us in the next half hour. in national headlines this morning.. protests have been simmering for months over an oil pipeline under construction that would span from north dakota to illinois.. now those tensions are boiling over...into coast-to-coast demonstrations. (nat pop protester) "water is sacred! (nat pop crowd) "water is life!" because i want clean drinking water for my future generations." plans for finishing the pipeline include tunneling under a lake and river that the standing rock sioux tribe relies on for drinking water.. the concern is that digging under those water sources will create a risk of leaks, spills and contaminations.. but the companies behind the dakota access pipeline insist that the risks are low. the protests just might be working.. because the u-s army corps of

construction so they can talk to the tribe. president-elect donald trump has been at his office skyscraper in new york.. immersed in transition planning. he was seen at an unannounced evening out with family.. but before dinner at a midtown manhattan restaurant -- trump broke protocol and left his press contigent behind. the president- elect also tweeted out clarification this morning.. saying he is not actually trying to get his kids top- secret security clearance. some g-o including a few big names out of las vegas -- will be leading president elect- donald trump's presidential inaugural committee. los angeles billionaire-- tom barrack has been tapped to serve as the committee's chairman.. then sheldon adelson and his wife, phil ruffin and steve wynn, new york jets owner woody johnson, anthony scaramucci and mel sembler and will be the committee's vice chairs. the group will plan and pay for

trump's inauguration. retiring democratic senator barbara boxer wants to get rid of the electoral college.. she's already introduced a bill to do just that. the california senator calls the electoral college an outdated and undemocratic system...which has been a popular debate since hillary clinton won the popular vote...but still lost the election to donald trump. senate minority leader harry reid hasn't officially commented on this proposal.. but...he has made his opinions about donald trump very clear.. reid: "i've been in politics for five decades. i've not seen anything like we're seeing today in america. a man lost the popular vote by two million votes, is now president-elect." the outgoing senator addressed the senate floor.. condemning some of donald trump's appointments.. before calling on the president- elect to unify the country. catherine cortez masto will be taking reid's seat. a republican lawmaker in iowa is taking a unique

dealing with college students who are upset over trump's win.. representative bobby kaufmann annouced the so- called "suck it up, buttercup" bill.. which would cut the budgets of state universities that spend money on students upset about the presidential election. kaufmann: "you've got a right to be a brat. you've got a right to protest, that's constitutionally protected. but you do not have a right to throw a temper tantrum on i-80 and put my constituents' lives in danger." kaufmann says he wants the house oversight committee to clarify state laws.. and even look into fining iowa colleges for any tax dollars spent on so-called "cry rooms" for students upset over the results. you hire a licensed contractor to do some home improvements.... what are you responsibilities as the home owner? find out on this week's "inside the

the officers. fox 5's mike doria joins us live from the strip with the reason behind the need for the cops and what this will look like. simply put -- the strip is our bread and butter and where our economy brings in a ton of money. it's about protecting our future -- this as there's also been an increase in violent crimes nationwide this past year. an 11 percent increase in violent crimes to be exact. the county commission approved a .01 percent sales tax increase. that will trans additional cops on the las vegas strip. that number is based on an equation that factors in the average number of nights tourists stay in hotels on the strip. these cops will also be along side tourists -- in other words -- the sheriffs says the additional deputies will be ground troops -- not car patrols. he says it's about

"we've been underserved but not severely underserved. i was never comfortable "we've been underserved but not severely underserved. i was never comfortable with the number of officers we had policing the resort corridor" the extra cops will eliminate the need for project safe strip in which hotels chip in extra money for extra patrols in the resort corridor during the summer months. this tax increase and additional cops covers that. the sheriff also saying these added cops will bring an appropriate level of public safety to the strip. metro will not be asking for another sales tax increase in the future to cover a need for additional cops -- consider it capped. but the department will be visiting the legislature in the future to pull in more dollars from property

good morning i'm cassandra jones with fox5. big story today will be the wind. a wind advisory takes effect at 10 a.m. for the entire viewing area with gusting speeds 40-50 mph possible. much colder air invades las vegas on thursday, bringing down into the low 60s and upper 50s. skies will be mostly sunny. friday morning will be the coldest weather this season with 30s expected. the weekend is trending milder with a few clouds at times. high temperatures will be in the mid to upper 60s. there is the chance of a few showers on monday

year. additional cops will be added as part of a sales tax increase approved by the county. fox 5's mike doria joins us live from the strip with the reason behind the need for more police officers on the strip. simply put -- the strip is our bread and butter and where our economy brings in a ton of money. it's about protecting our future -- this as there's also been an increase in violent crimes nationwide this past year. an 11 percent increase in violent an 11 percent increase in violent crimes to be exact. the county commission approved a .01 percent sales tax increase. that will translate to roughly 68

strip. that number is based on an equation that factors in the average number of nights tourists stay in hotels on the strip. these cops will also be along side tourists -- in other words -- the sheriffs says the additional deputies will be ground troops -- not car patrols. he says it's about presence. "we've been underserved but not severely underserved. i was never comfortable with the number of officers we had policing the resort corridor" the extra cops will eliminate the need for project safe str hotels chip in extra money for extra patrols in the resort corridor during the summer months. this tax increase and additional cops covers that. the sheriff also saying these added cops will bring an appropriate level of public safety to the strip. metro will not be asking for another sales tax increase in the future to cover a need for additional cops -- consider it capped. but the department will be visiting the legislature in the future to pull in more dollars from property
