mostly -- this is just a formality vote but one that is necessary if the projects are going to move forward. the commission vote was part of the requirement the state legislature put on the package deal when it approved the tax increases during the special session last month. a new stadium is the only way the raiders have agreed to come to las vegas. a yes vote on the room tax increase would pump in $750 million in public dollars toward the stadium. resort mogul sheldon adelson would kick in 650 million and the raider's president would chip in a half a million on the project. the lvcva imploded the riviera hotel over the summer to make way for a convention center expansion. it needs a 1/2 a percent increase in the room tax to cover the cost of that and says the expansion is necessary to be competatitve with other cities when it comes to attracting trade shows. the county commission will consider the room tax increase for the stadium and convention center together -- not separately.
