but first - cassandra jones has a quick look at the fox 5 weather 24-7 forecast. good morning i'm cassandra jones with fox5. today will be another sunny & warm day across the valley with light winds. we will top out at 78 degrees today with 79 expected tuesday. wednesday a deep trough rolls across nevada bringing strong winds wednesday. in the wake of the trough, much cooler air settles in. winds will shift to come out of the north and will remain gusty for part of the day. temperatures drop more than 15 between wednesday and thursday down to 60 degrees with some of the coldest temperatures so far this season expected on friday morning, frost advisories may be issued. we will stay in the upper 60's with sunshine through the weekend. good morning. here's a look at

called to the park near harmon and decatur sunday morning. neighbors tell police they heard the men arguing before they heard gun shots. they say the two men involved in the shooting were in an ongoing dispute over a woman. police say the victim was found dead in the street. "this is a quiet complex, there's a lot of retired people so its kind of quiet in here. so we're not really sure what precipitated the gunfire." police say the victim was also armed during the shoot out. the man who shot him is in police custody. president-elect donald trump says he may have a leg up when it comes to getting legislation passed under his administration. his party will soon have control of both chambers of congress. fox's kristin fisher has more on trump's ambitious 100-day plan.

in congress who are wary of any more government spending. but two issues where both sides will amost certainly see eye- to-eye are the appointment of a conservative justice to the supreme court. and the rolling back of regulations on wall street. continue to rattle new zealand following a deadly 7-point-8 magnitude earthquake. today the country's prime minister w the ground, surveying damage from the strong earthquake. as fox's bryan llenas explains, aid is now being deployed to the hardest hit areas.

are most affected, that's clearly on the east coast, around that sort of kaikoura area and inland around culverden and the likes. we have had very limited communications there because that's been cut off." a number of strong aftershocks were felt more than a 120 miles away...and a tsunami was reported about two hours later. new zealand's prime minister john key says the full extent of the damage is still being assessed ... and emergency officials are warning people along the coast to move to higher ground to avoid tsunami waves... key says: "we now know that those around the country that tsunami risk has been do coastal warnings. but also urge people to continue to be cautious." for many the quake brought back memories of a 6- point-3 magnitude earthquake that struck in 2011 -- killing 185 people. new zealand sits on the - ring of fire - an arc of seismic faults around the pacific ocean where earthquakes are common... sintes says: "we've certainly experienced a lot of earthquakes down here. what concerned us was the duration of the quake. it was quite a strong quake." (on cam tag) military helicopters and red cross teams are now being dispatched to assess the damage and help those in the worst hit areas.

research shows a healthy heart starts with a healthy lifestyle. new research shows that leading a healthy lifestyle can slash your risk for developing heart disease, even if your genes are heavily stacked against you. the study finds that people with the most inherited risk cut their chances of having a heart attack or other heart problems in half if they didn't smoke, ate well, got regular exercise and stayed slim. at 4:45 in the morning, caffeine can be your best friend! but too much of a good thing can have dangerous effects on your health. fox's alexis mcadams explains why drinking one too many energy drinks, could land you in the hospital.

promise spark when you are feeling tired.... but doctors say too much of these drinks and the natural supplements inside can have negative effects on your health. mos says: "eating or drinking too much of anything can be toxic." doctors at the university of florida are connecting some energy drink to liver issues that are linked to acute hepatitis... the warning comes after a 50 year old man reportedly drank 5 energy drinks every day for three weeks. and showed up to the emergency room with flu like symptoms and also had yellowing of his skin and eyes... mos says: "if the liver is not functioning correctly- then not filtering those out and that can cause buildup of toxins that cause the itching and yellow eyes." doctors tested his blood and found high levels of folic acid and b12 which are common ingredients in energy drinks... which most people view as healthy supplements...but affected his liver - along with the high amount of vitamin b3 or niacin. mos says: "more of anything is not necessarily better - so it is not necessarily surprising that it is the vitamins that are causing the toxicity." the man in this study, however, had an underlying chronic hepatitis c infection... but researchers say

drinks is what caused his liver damage. there was another case in 2011 where a 22 years old girl developed acute hepatitis that doctors out of staten island hospital linked to too many energy drinks. but the most recent report said there is no conclusive evidence that links the energy drinks to hepatitis. mos says: "you should be totally aware of all of your consumption of caffeine and calories and nutrients." mcadams says: "health experts say that drinking more than one energy drink can put you dangerously above the recommended limit for b vitamins... which can increase your toxicity. reporting in the newsroom, i'm alexis mcadms, back to you.">> a dog from the u- k, takes his final walk on the beach, surrounded by pet lovers and their canine companions. a group of bikers in new jersey were left starstruck, when they stopped to help a fellow biker on the side of the road. that stranded biker, was "the boss" himself, bruce springsteen. the group of bikers returning from a veterans' day event when they saw the broke-down bike and pulled over to help. springsteen's battery wouldn't charge, so they ended up giving him a ride to a nearby restaurant. the musician invited the group for a round of drinks and promised them some concert tickets. plenty more straight ahead on fox5 news this morning... including the strip's first taco bell.

check out the phenomenon known as a supermoon. a supermoon is when the moon looks bigger and appears brighter than usual. they happen regularly but this one is considered to be extra special fox5's les krifaton is up on our roof this morning to tell us more. yeah each year we experience supermoons. it happens to occur during a full moon when it's at it's closest distance to earth. this is what the moon looked like last night over this is what the moon looked like last night over the las vegas valley shot by one of our photographers robbie hunt. as you can see it does appear bigger and brighter. fox5 viewers have also been sharing their supermoon eve pics since last night. here is a simple explanation about what a supermoon is all about. the moon orbits the earth every 27 and a half days. it's an elliptical orbit which is like a slightly stretched out circle.
