sunny & warm day across the valley with light winds. we will top out at 78 degrees today with 79 expected tuesday. wednesday a deep trough rolls across nevada bringing strong winds wednesday. in the wake of the trough, much cooler air settles in. winds will shift to come out of the north and will remain gusty for part of the day. temperatures drop more than 15 between wednesday and thursday down to 60 degrees with some of the coldest temperatures so far this season expected on friday morning, frost advisories may be issued. we will stay in the upper 60's with sunshine through the weekend. police say a man may have been under the influence when he was hit and killed on the freeway. it happened last night in the southbound lanes of the eye-15 near craig. police say the driver who hit the man couldn't avoid him because of all the traffic. the driver was not impaired, but police say the pedestrian may have been. they are still trying to figure out why he was out there in the first place. "only the pedestrian on the roadway, knows why they're on the roadway if it's impairment, if it's carelessness not using a crosswalk being out on the highway i dont know how to
police say there weren't any broken down cars in the area. the coroner is working to identify the victim. a local mother is coping with the loss of her two sons following a deadly d-u-i crash. the family says they were going to the store to get their mom a birthday present, when police say an impaired driver hit them. fox5's abby theodros was at last night's vigil.

wardian. he placed first in the men's marathon and set a guinness world record for fastest marathon ever in an elvis costume. wardian crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 38 minutes, 4 seconds. the old elvis record was set back in 2009. more than 45- thousand runners and walkers shut down the las vegas strip for the "rock n' roll marathon." racers dressed in colorful costumes and flashing lights during the weekend's big races. a few couples even tied the knot on the track. "we trained for four months and we're here to run the our first 26.2 marathon." "we just wanted to be out here and prove it. everybody can do it. everybody that wants to do it can do it. we just want to do it." "we're trying to motivate other people" "trying to motivate as many people as we can. hopefully we get other people in wheelchairs to do it too. so we're just going for it!" live music kept the runners

morning you may want to grab your cup of coffee and check out the phenomenon known as a supermoon. a supermoon is when the moon looks bigger and appears brighter than usual. they happen regularly but this one is considered to be special fox5's les krifaton is up on our roof this morning to tell us more. yeah each year we experience supermoons. it happens to occur during a full moon when
this is what the moon looked like last night over the las vegas valley shot by one of our photographers robbie hunt. as you can see it does appear bigger and brighter. fox5 viewers have also been sharing their supermoon eve pics since last night. here is a simple or not so simple explanation about what a supermoon is all about. the moon orbits the earth every 27 and a half days. it's a elliptical orbit which is like a slightly stretched out circle. the moon's normal distance from us is roughly 239,000 miles.
moon will look about 14% larger than normal and about 30% brighter. the best time to take pictures of the supermoon will be after sunset when the moon is low on the horizon. if you can get a building or a landmark into the picture just like some of our viewers did last night you'll have a great memory of an astronomical event that last occurred nearly 70 years ago.
