this is from portland, oregon last night. hundreds of protesters marched through the city... rallying against president-elect trump since his victory on election day. thousands of protesters took to portland's streets thursday night. demonstrations also took place in cities like los angeles, miami and atlanta yesterday... with people advocating for peace and love. there was a peaceful protest in vegas earlier this week. organizers say another one is set for tonight. a motorcyclist was killed in a crash in the northwest valley yesterday. the 30 year old motorcyclist died near fort apache and cheyenne... after being hit by a mini van. officers say the van was making a u-turn and the motorcycle slammed into the back of it. investigators say the motorcycle was going so fast... when it hit the back of the van... it slid more than a thousand feet. this is metro's 24th motorcycle death this year. days after a north las vegas

and killed in her own home... police have yet to make an arrest... a 47-year old woman was found dead inside her home... on wildcat brook court tuesday. police are still looking into if this was a murder... self-defense... or if the woman fired the gun herself. the police also said they have never been called out to that address before for domestic violence. the woman lived in the home with her boyfriend... neighbors say they were a nice couple. but the day after shooting-- they say the boyfriend moved out of the house and never came back. "me and our nextdoor neighbor right here, the filipino dude, had a few drinks -- just talked and laughed... just a nice neighbor. ...totally shocked i mean you really can't expect -- you really don't know what somebody can do until they do it. served our freedom. right here in las vegas, veterans village held a celebration for our vets... and fox5's miguel martinez valle was there and brings us the story. < i pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the united states of america> the united states of america, the land of the free... the home of the brave... " what better way to celebrate veterans than to serve those who have served our country" today those protecting our republic, were celebrated, remembered, and honored... " this is the least we can do to honor them, and thats what we do we honor them every day" veterans village held the celebration, and along with mayor carolyn goodman they announced plans to continue helping veterans in need... " the main thing is whats being done here, that homeless and veterans should never be together in any sentence" many also took the time to thank those who fought for us... . " i love them and i am super proud of them and thank you for my freedom"

non competitive cycling event. opening ceremonies start at 8:30 a-m. the race starts and finishes... at the rock in rio parking lot... at the corner of sahara and las vegas blvd. also this morning is the 13th annual military culinary competition. the event is hosted by tropicana las vegas's newest chef, robert irvine. over 50 active duty military from around the world will face off... for the title of armed forces culinary grand champions. the competition begins this morning at seven...goes until 4:30... and there will be a meet and greet with robert irvine from one to three. this weekend... the strip is setting up for the annual "rock n' roll marathon". it's been deemed the "world's largest night-time running event." this year-- more than forty- thousand people from all over the world will be lacing up their running shoes. this year is extra special because it's the marathon's 50-th anniversary. organizers say it takes a full year and tons of people to put on the huge event.

when their car flipped into a lake. tony aiello has more on the scary accident... and the heroic rescue that followed. (julia brower/survived accident) "the car started filling up with water. we didn't know the car flipped upside down. i did not know where i was." panic and confusion gripped 17 year old julia brower - like the mud from lake mahopac still on this sedan. she was a passenger thursday evening when her friend lost control - hit a utility pole - rolled over this dock - and into the lake, upside down. (julia brower/survived accident) "i just screamed help - like bloody murder screamed help!" (cullen malzo/rescuer) "i was on the shore, screaming at the car." 19 year old cullen malzo heard the accident from his home across the street - and ran out to take a look. (tony aiello/reporting) "cullen says he was so frazzled by what happened - he grabbed his smart phone and punched in 9-1-1 - on his

- he made the call and then he made a big decision - (cullen malzo/rescuer) "i shed my jacket and my shoes and i jumped in - and then the mud went to about my chin." while cullen struggled thru the thick mud - julia and her friend struggled to stay calm in the air pocket that was keeping them alive. (julia brower/survived accident) "i was like "oh my goodness this is like a nightmare and a movie all in one." cullen reached the car and felt for an open window - (cullen malzo/rescuer) "i reach in and i feel an arm, and it immediately grabs me back." accident) "all of a sudden i saw his hand, i just grabbed it - i was like, can i fit through the window, i don't know." after rescuing julia, cullen pulled her friend to safety, too. and then - (cullen malzo/rescuer) "we had a nice little group hug in the middle of the lake - and then we made it to shore." (tony aiello, reporting) "what were they saying?" (cullen malzo/rescuer) "they were very thankful and very appreciative and it felt good knowing that they were safe." we're less two weeks away from thanksgiving... but christmas decorations are already lighting up some places around the valley. one of the biggest holiday displays kicks off today... the "glittering lights" at the las vegas motor speedway! you drive through millions of lights... while tuned in to a christmas radio station. the display benefits the speedway children's charity. "in my head and my chest and my heart i feel like i'm in my 20s, at most 30s not 83" and at 83 army veteran mark lechner is feeling his age "you do get a little better when you're having pain" pain or from the decades old injury from training on base during the "i was asked to help out how to teach the troops with leaving to go to vietnam or to go to korea how to defend himself probably and in that mood when i got hurt" to help, mark got a veterans day surprise... the newly formed las vegas chapter of the korean war veterans association gave mark a wheelchair wheelchair to help with his pain "and then we heard that we were that i was chosen that then we became the
