live from las vegas, fox5 news this morning starts now (nats) (nat pop) "black lives matter! black lives matter" protests continue for a third day, demonstrators angry over donald trump's election victory. trump taking to twitter, calling the marches against - "very unfair." they served our country, now it's time for us to honor our wonderful veterans. businesses across the valley are offering deals and freebies to members of the u-s armed forces today. plus everything you need to know about today's parade downtown. good morning i'm dave hall. and i'm maria silva. welcome to fox5

first cassandra jones joins us with a quick look at the fox 5 weather 24-7 forecast. good morning i'm cassandra jones with fox5. it will be another sunny & warm day for veterans day with light breezes. we are looking at another high of 80 degrees today. we are going for our 8th day this month with a high at or above 80 degrees. if we hit 80 that would tie the record for most days in november reaching 80. the current record of 8 days dates back to 1949. daytime highs will be in the upper 70s for the weekend. some more clouds roll into the area saturday, but we will keep it dry. skies stay mostly sunny sunday through tuesday with temperatures in the upper 70s. cooler air moves into the valley wednesday with high temperatures falling back into the upper low 70s. winds will also be gusty midweek. highs on thursday will only be in the low 60s.

filing by... hundreds taking to the streets in denver, colorado... in california, students took part in walk-outs across the state, from los angeles to san francisco. gibson says "i just don't think that donald trump is fit to run our country because of all of the terrible things he said to people and all the terrible things he accuses people of doing. i just don't support that as the leader of our country." elected officials hopeful that president elect donald trump will be able to heal the rift this vicious presidential campaign has caused across the nation. garcetti says " the things that were said that were not partisan about women, about our muslim brothers and sisters, about immigrants. this campaign started remember with singling about mexicans and mexican-americans. those have a very long term and traumatic effect on people, and i hope that president elect trump can do things to repair those words that have been said and to be an example." president-elect donald trump and president barack obama came face to face in the oval office for the first time. both called on our divided nation to unite. "we want to do everything we can to help you succeed because if you succeed, then the country succeeds. please, sir." "i have great respect. the meeting lasted for almost an hour and half, and as far as im concerned it could've gone on a lot longer." president obama called the meeting excellent. donald trump went on to call president obama a good man. donald trump's platform involves supporting our nation's veterans. in his 100 day plan, trump outlined a ten point program to reform the trouble v-a system. trump wants to give veterans the ability to "choose public health care or attend a private doctor of their choice." we reached out to veterans at the new v-a out- patient clinic in pahrump, who are spilt on the propsal. some say adding private care to the v-a is an expensive solution, while others say they deserve the best care available. protect them once they get back " the new outpatient clinic in pahrump provides services to veterans including mental health care, primary care and phone consultations. today the nation will celebrate and pay tribute to the men and women who sacrificed their freedoms for our own. at 8 a-m local time, president obama will honor the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the u-s armed forces. during this morning's ceremony at national cemetery, a wreath will be laid on the tomb of the unknown soldier to acknowledge the service members who lost their lives in war. here at home, businesses across the valley will be showing their appreciation to the men and women who have served our country. ihop is getting patriotic by offering vets a free stack of red, white & blue pancakes. veterans can get a free burger at red robin. wienerschnitzel is giving vets a free chili dog, fries and drink.

famous dave's, which will be giving away a free two meat combo station casinos is offering free buffets all day long. more deals are listed right there on your screen. the high roller at the linq is also celebrating veterans today. all active and retired u-s armed forces will get to ride the big wheel today for free. just show your valid military i-d. tonight, the observation wheel will be lit up red,white and blue tonight to honor our nation's vets. if you're looking to enjoy the great outdoors, red rock canyon and many other b- l-m parks will be waiving entrance fees today for all veterans. tens of thousands of people will line the streets of downtown this morning to honor our local veterans. the annual veterans day parade starts at ten a-m. las vegas' parade is the largest veterans parade west of the mississippi. the parade will move down fourth street between gass and ogden.. which means closures... that

starting at six a- m... the route will reopen to traffic at three this afternoon. fox5's alyssa deitsch will be out there this morning to give us a preview. a local veteran gets keys to a new ride ahead of veterans day. progressive's "keys to progess" donated the newly- refurbished vehicle yesterday. they say nearly half of all veterans live in areas where affordable transportation is especially when they need medical care or want to attend employment centers. progressive says they've given away hundreds of cars across the country to military families and organizations. a turkey has been granted mercy to start the season of giving. catholic charities of southern nevada pardoned the turkey named "mister butters." two metro police officers found the turkey in their backyard about six months ago. they nursed him back to health, before finding his forever home. the pardon also

drive. this year, they're hoping to collect more than four-thousand frozen turkeys to help families in need enjoy thanksgiving dinner.
