las vegas fire responded to a reported explosion at the home. when they entered the home they found a person badly burned inside. that victim was transported to u-m-c. firefighters say there was a gas leak but it has been secured and no one is in danger. a veteran police officer is recovering this morning... after he was shot while responding to a domestic dispute call. when he arrived on the scene...an exchange of gunfire erupted with a suspect. the situation turned into a 6- hour manhunt for the shooter... here's fox5's cyndi lundeberg with what happened.

of the officer involved in the shooting. of the officer involved in the shooting. investigators are still trying to figure out why the suspect, 38- year-old teag fox shot the veteran officer, since the situation escalated so quickly. at last check, the 21-year veteran of the force was in stable condition at u-m-c. "he had a pretty substantial injury under his armpit area. the bullet missed his vest and he'll subsequently have to deal with that for some time." the officer is expected to make a make full recovery as he continues treatment for his injuries. we're told his wife and son are by his side and that he's awake and talking. class remains in session at c-c-s-d today, after the district deemed an email threat non- credible. the district considered closing down yesterday after receiving an e-mail threat similar to

amid growing terror concerns, disney, universal, seaworld florida and six flags... are beefing up security ahead of the busy holiday season. metal detectors have been placed at the front gates of each park. police will be increasing their presence as well. park visitors can expect to be selected at random for secondary screenings. disney has also discontinued the sale of toy guns, which are no longer allowed inside the parks. children under the age of 14 are the only ones allowed to wear costumes going forward. the house has voted to approve a 1-point-1 trillion dollar spending bill this morning. this will avoid a possible government shut down and provide funding through september. yesterday house lawmakers approved a 620- billion dollar tax measure. the bill freezes a controversial obamacare tax and extends dozens of tax credits that were set to expire. the bill now moves to the president for his approval. two weeks from now the las vegas strip will shut down for america's party 20-16. hundreds of

your traffic solutions. this is fox5 news this morning. flooding caused by typhoon melor has killed more than 40 people in the central philippines. the category 3 storm has since moved out to sea... but several people are still missing. nearly 750- thousand people are staying in evacuation centers. the water is still shoulder deep in some areas... with more rain over the weekend very possible. nearly 20-million dollars worth of damage was caused by the storm. and the people in washington are getting pummeled by snow... making travel very difficult. roadways are packed with thick layers of snow. the speed limit in some areas of the freeway was lowered to 35- miles per hour... but many accidents are still being reported. some areas

morning's event. nick? dave and monica -- you may remember the 'why did the turkey cross the road' event, metro, n-h-p, and c-c-s-d police held back around thanksgiving. this event is very similar to that. the only difference is santa will be crossing the road this time... .... and those who violate pedestrian traffic laws will receive much worse than a lump of coal. pedestrian fatalities are a big problem in our valley. we have covered several of them since thanksgiving. and since halloween -- pedestrian fatalities have increased from 36 to an astounding 57. so, santa will be crossing in the crosswalk at sahara and 'las verdes' just west of valley view, this morning. any drivers caught speeding through the school zone, not stopping for crossing pedestrians, and not waiting until pedestrians have cleared the crosswalk before proceeding on -- will receive a traffic ticket. also, pedestrians -- crossing where they shouldn't --

standstill after a head-on collision in the northwest valley. n-h-p says the 43- year-old driver of the pick-up died on the scene. " on the 215, it is only 55 miles per hour. if you're traveling way too fast, even with those safety features, it's really not going to do a whole lot to help, and that's why the laws are in place. " the crash happened on the 2-15 near ann yesterday morning. n-h-p says the driver of the pick-up crossed over the center line and hit the dump truck head- on. the driver of the dump truck suffered minor injuries. no word yet if the driver suffered a medical episode or if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. police are asking for your help to find 2 men wanted in connection with a robbery in north las vegas. take a look. the two are accused of stealing a high value item from a business on craig near camino al norte back on

november 7th. no one was injured and police didn't see a weapon on either suspect. police believe the men are in their early 20's. anyone with information is asked to call north las vegas police... or you can remain anonymous by calling crime stoppers at 702- 385-55-55 president obama working to calm the nation's nerves as security remains a major concern for many americans. this as members of his government take heat from congressmen on capitol hill. fox's doug luzader explains. this is the time of year when things typically slow down around here, but, it's clear from just looking at the president's schedule that the focus of the nation right now is on national security. a trip to pentagon on monday, a stop at the national counterterrorism center yesterday and later today, a trip to the scene of a the nation's most recent terror attack, meeting with victims' families in san bernardino, california, all to reassure an anxious nation as we approach christmas. obama says "..most of all, we cannot

this morning... you may spot santa crossing the road. area police departments are coming together to raise pedestrian safety awareness during the holiday season. fox five's nick lagrange is live near sahara and valley view with a look at this morning's event. nick? dave and monica -- you may remember the 'why did the turkey cross the road' event, metro, n-h-p, and c-c-s-d police held back around thanksgiving. this event is very similar to that. the only difference is santa will be crossing the road this time... .... and those who violate pedestrian traffic laws will receive much worse than a lump of coal. pedestrian fatalities are a big problem in our valley. we have covered several of them since

and since halloween -- pedestrian fatalities have increased from 36 to an astounding 57. so, santa will be crossing in the crosswalk at sahara and 'las verdes' just west of valley view, this morning. any drivers caught speeding through the school zone, not stopping for crossing pedestrians, and not waiting until pedestrians have cleared the crosswalk before proceeding on -- will receive a traffic ticket. also, pedestrians -- crossing where they shouldn't -- will receive tickets. many recent pedestrian fatalities have been the result of people crossing the street outside of marked crosswalks. santa will cross

standstill after a head-on collision in the northwest valley. n-h-p says the 43- year-old driver of the pick-up died on the scene. " on the 215, it is only 55 miles per hour. if you're traveling way too fast, even with those safety features, it's really not going to do a whole lot to help, and that's why the laws are in place. " the crash happened on the 2-15 near ann yesterday morning. n-h-p says the driver of the pick-up crossed over the center line and hit the
