welcome to fox5 news this morning. jones joins us at the fox 5 weather 24-7 forecast. good morning i'm cassandra jones with fox5. it's a freezing start to the day as our drops to 32 degrees. cloud cover will thicken up today with partly cloudy skies expected on thursday with a high of 51. friday we'll start in the mid-30s with an afternoon high of 56. we'll stay close to 60 degrees for afternoon southwest gusts to 25 mph saturday, then northwest sunday. temps remain in the mid to upper 50's through picking up a slight chance of showers tuesday & wednesday. our average high is 56. good morning.

your fox5 traffic solutions let's begin with your drive here are the accidents to watch out and alternate routes you can use listed on our maps here are the construciton areas to look out for and alternate routes listed on our maps back to the news desk a medical office worker turned the table on a pair of robbers wednesday night... ...opening fire, and killing one of them. this happened near charleston and rancho. and police say one of the suspects is still on the run. fox five's nick lagrange joins us live from the scene, with where the investigation stands. nick? dave and maria -- this isn't something you see, or hear about, every day. after being held up in this building last night, one of the office workers decided to run to his car to grab his gun.... ...and confront

police say this happened just after seven o'clock last night. they say a man and a woman held up a physician, a patient, and the office worker at gun point. suspects demanded money and possibly drugs. officers say the suspects brutally assaulted the physician before leaving the office. that's when the office worker ran out to his car, grabbed a gun and fired several shots at the fleeing suspects. police say the female suspect times... ....and was later rushed to u-m-c where shewas pronounced dead. the physician was treated for a head wound, but should be okay. as for that male suspect, he's still out there. "we don't believe he's in the area, but we do believe he was shot, we have a message out to all of the hospitals in case someone does show up with a random gunshot wound." police say the male suspect is a black man around 5-foot-7. they say he was wearing a ski mask, so they don't have a good description of him, beyond that.

information that can help police track down that suspect, you're call police. this story, once more information becomes available. dave and maria? accused of lewdness is due before a judge this morning. michael skelton was arrested on monday. he's facing charges of willfully poisoning or altering food, water or medicine, and open and gross lewdness. school police say it happened at dondero elementary school. in skelton's arrest report, police say a teacher found bodily fluids on her desk and belongings, including food and medicine. police say skelton admitted to performing private sex acts in the classroom after he was filmed on surveillance video.

brian sandoval called for a special session to talk about the deal with electric car maker faraday future. fox5's miguel martinez valle is in carson city with the details of the bill just presented to nevada lawmakers. after hours of anticipation and months of negotiations bills involving the deal with faraday future have been handed to law makers, now its their turn to look them over and see if they feel this is the right deal for nevada... assembly bill 1, was presented to the assembly around 7:30 pm. it deals with higher education programs preparing people for the jobs created by faraday and also requires workforce training programs to have a diversity action plan. the improvements to infrastructure around apex industrial park have many law makers excited for rural areas around apex like moapa valley, the updates include water and electricity for the park, something that could not only lead to more

overnight, school districts in houston, dallas and miami received threats of violence similar to those made against schools in new york and los angeles on tuesday. the school districts have deemed the threats non- credible. so classes will resume as planned today. on tuesday, the los angeles unified school district abruptly cancelled classes for more than 640-thousands students. due to high demand, the deadline to enroll for healthcare under the nevada health link has been extended. consumers have until 11-59 tonight january first coverage. make sure you residency, proof of income, valid i-d and proof of u-s citizenship before you call to enroll. raising the minimum wage nevada. the "chambers of commerce" in las suing... asking a judge in stop a petition

and it came courtesy of firetrucks... cheering firefighters of southern nevada burn foundation gave out toys yesterday to students at hickey elementary school. the toys were collected as part of the annual fill the fire truck toy drive. more than 26 thousand kids get a special gift-- thanks to the drive. and organizers say all of the hardwork is worth it.... "with the crew out here they're able to give the child a toy, they're able to see that expression on their face. a smile here they're able to give the child a toy, they're able to see that expression on their face. a smile goes a long way, especially for these guys here who are able to run calls day in day out, so to be able to bring a smile to a kid, especially during the holiday season is a wonderful joy to these people." if you want to help.... it is not too late. they are still collecting new, unwrapped toys and gift cards through the weekend.

is showing off its cutest new addition. giant panda cub, his adoring fans for the first time yesterday but the adorable panda wasn't quite ready for all that attention... all he sleep! let's check in and guy is doing this morning. we've been checking in all night long, taking sleeping panda and his mom, mei. right now little bei bei is curled up in the corner, on some bamboo out in the habitat. his public debut inside his exhibit on january 16-th.

dave and maria -- this isn't something you see, or hear about, every day. up in this building last night, one of the office workers decided to run to his car to grab his gun.... the suspects. scene here. and police say there is a lot for them to process. police say this after seven o'clock last night. they say a man and a woman held up a physician, a patient, and the office worker at gun point. they say the the physician, the patient, and the office worker into a room and demanded money and possibly drugs. officers say the suspects brutally assaulted the physician before at some point, police say that office worker took it upon himself to run out of the building, go to his car, and retireve a handgun. he then fired several shots as the suspects fled the building. police say the female suspect was hit multiple times... ....and was later

pronounced dead. the physician was should be okay. as for that male suspect, he's still out there. "there's blood around the building. and there's blood that leads across the lot across the a big scene, both inside and outside. like i said, they're right now of doing the interviews. spoken to the doctor at umc. but the other people and the first responding officers are being interviewed right now." police say the male suspect is a black man around 5-foot-7. they say he was wearing a ski mask, so they don't have a good description of him, beyond that. they also say the female suspect who was shot and killed, may have been a former patient here. of course -- if you have any information that can help police track down that suspect, you're encouraged to call police. we will update this story, once more information becomes available. dave and maria? a man was stabbed to death at an

complex... and police say squatters may be the suspects. authorities say just after 12 yesterday afternoon they responded to a call about a fight... at the complex on harmon and boulder highway. when they arrived they found a man dead with a stab wound to the chest. police say the victim and the suspects were squatters and did not live at the apartment... and a underway for those responsible. "a black male theyre saying 25-30 he was wearing a red and white striped hat is kind of distinctive with a platinum blonde white female so those two are around here on sure theyre going to stick out' anyone with call crime stoppers... at 702- 385-5555. three men are

felony charges after several home invasions and a sexual assault. police say the suspects broke into several homes in the southwest valley over the summer. 42-year-old wilbert knight, 28-year-old brandon black, and 23-year-old quincy williams are facing a combined 46 charges. metro says the men broke into homes and used zipties to restrain their victims. police also say they beat them with handguns and revolvers. detectives say the trio left a lot of d-n-a evidence behind. "the other thing that helped out, and is always a help for everybody in the community is sometimes we have neighbors that are keeping an eye on the neighborhood and they see something that just doesn't look right, and that gets reported to the police." district attorney steve wolfson is vowing to make sure these guys steve wolfson is vowing to make sure these guys pay for their crimes. all of the suspects are facing first- degree kidnapping charges. if convicted, they could spend the rest of the lives in prison.

expressing outrage. mos says: "we need justice now, not tomorrow...he was killed in police custody. how many more of these murders do we have to go through?" the mayor and police commissioner appealing for calm -- hoping to avoid a repeat of the riots that rocked the city last spring. rawlings-blake says: "we are prepared to respond, we will protect our residents, we will protect our neighbors, our businesses and we will protect the safety of our first responders." leland vittert, fox news.>> in more local news, more than 15 thousand dollars worth of ipads were stolen from jesse scott elementary school. and police say it was a staff member who took the equipment used by students. school police say information technology employee "gordon goujon" was in charge of transferring 40 ipads to another school. but the tablets never got there. police searched a pawn data base for stolen devices, and found

missing ipads. they connected goujon's brother, pierre goujon, to the transaction. "due to the fact that he was in the care and control of 40 ipads he worked for i.t. for the school district we were able to charge him with the theft of all 40 " police say pierre goujon admitted to selling the ipads, but claims he had no idea they were stolen. this morning... republican presidential candidate ted cruz will speak to a crowd of 500 people... he's holding a rally at the sienna community center. yesterday, carly fiorina met with supporters at sun city anthem. she says if she becomes president, she would repeal obamacare and fix the immigration system. she also wants to replace the current tax code with a three page plan that would help small businesses. sot fiorina as a chief executive of a 90 billion dollar firm i could handle all that complexity because all i had to do was hire armies of accounts and lawyers and

"this is like a cinderella transformation. the children spend a lot playing dress up, the books, working teenagers love the video games, and it really changed their climate the bright horizons foundation donated this fun area to the family promise of las vegas day center. family promise is one of the few works with homeless single fathers. the foundation provides short- term shelter and hospitality to help these families get back on their feet. when maria found out i was going to be her co-anchor... she was shocked... this.
