a woman was hit by a car near durango and sahara around 9 o clock last night. police say she was j-walking and stepped in front of a jeep. we're told the driver is actually from california and was just visiting las vegas. i shrug my shoulders, i'm not sure what we can do here. this is terrible all the way around. the driver cooperated with police...and at this time, they don't believe alcohol or speed were factors in this deadly accident. hundreds of people on the strip are waking up to no power this morning....an outage is affecting 20 floors at the mandarin orientel hotel. condos on floors 24 through 47 are affected. residents haven't had power since early yesterday morning. the hotel is saying the outage is due to a maintance issue and told folks they should contact their home owners insurance to cover hotel costs.

"i don't want to incur any more costs because of somebody else's inability to solve the problem." . the hotel isn't sure when power will be back. action news is hearing from the family of the man found dead in the street near rainbow and craig. this is 72-year-old james harrington. according to his family.. he fell off his segway just down the road from his house on saturday. the family says he didn't like to drive. the segway was his way to get around town. morgan edwards, james harrington's daughter part of his retirement celebration thing was the segway so he can get back and forth to go to subway, domino's pizza, grocery store. a cause death has not been determined. tense moments yesterday for residents in one valley neighborhood near maryland parkway and tropicana. metro was called out for a domestic violence call. when officers arrived a woman

a man said that he was not going to come out and that he was going to kill himself. he eventually did come out and was arrested for suspected domestic violence. an action news update this a nevada deputy is recovering from a gunshot wound....after he responded to a domestic violience call in storey county. when he got there saturday night...police say "charles stutts".. opened fire.. hitting the deputy and one other person. the officer shot back and stutts gave up. stutts is injured ...but is okay....he's been booked in storey county on several charges. the deputy and by-stander are also doing fine. now to the latest on the standoff happening in oregon... armed protestors are angry at the federal government and they've seized control of a national wildlife refuge. it's happening in a rural part of oregon...but here's a local tie to this story. ammon bundy, the militia leader, is the son of cliven bundy, a nevada rancher who was involved in a similar standoff here just two years ago. abc's megan hughes has the

bucks for our city. ces comes at a critical time in the yearly tourism schedule. january is typically one of the slowest times of year when roomrates are cheap...but those numbers increase because of the high demand. helps us with our occupancy which of course also drives our gaming revenue and the revenues at our bars and restaurants and entertainment." this year, ces will run wednesday through saturday, which will further boost the economy with a friday night included in the schedule. ces is coming on the heels of a busy new year's weekend here in the valley.. hundreds of thousands of people left our city yesterday, heading home after the weekend of fun. on the i-15, traffic was bumper to bumper for a few hours in the evening. the headache started about 8 miles from the california border. this week.... our neighbors to the west are getting a headstart on preparing for what could be some strong storms there thanks to el nino. this is video of flooding hitting parts of california back in october. the floods caused a lot of chaos on the streets of l-a county and that's what mayor eric garcetti is trying to avoid with this round of storms. he addressed folks last night in l-a county... be prepared...this storm is real and it's coming... the mayor said the city is preparing by handing out sandbags to residents and getting emergency personnel in order. he says the last major el nino hit about 18 years ago. it killed 14 people and caused billions of dollars in damage. as the west coast is prepping for some major storms...the midwest is reeling after historic flooding has slammed

that region---and it's not over yet! the swollen mississippi river has turned neighborhoods into islands from illinois to missouri. 25 people have lost their lives and over 100 homes have been destroyed! this morning, that water is flowing downstream, threatening cities stretching from memphis to baton rouge. for some, it's a traumatic flashback to record flooding back in 1993. turning to a developing story overseas... at least -8- people are dead after a massive quake struck northeastern india. ....over 100 people were injured. the 6 point 7 magnitude quake struck not far from a highly populated city , damaging some houses and government buildings. power remains out in those areas as the clean-up is underway. ahead today in san bernardino... the site of a shooting rampage that left 14 people dead and 21 injured, is set to reopen. hundreds of employees at the inland regional center will be met with tighter security as they return to work. the center has been closed

since december 2nd when killers syed farook and his wife tashfeen malik went on the rampage. both were later killed in a shootout with police. farook was an inspector for san bernardino county's department of public health. he worked with many of the victims who were at the center for a training session and holiday party. ad-vo breaking political news. republican presidential candidate donald trump has released his first tv campaign ad. it's called "great again" it's 30 seconds. and focuses on islamic terrorists and immigration. it will air in iowa and new hampshire, part of a series of advertisements airing in the month before the iowa caucuses. until now, trump has only paid for radio spots for his campaign. but he has promised that he will spend two million dollars a week on the t-v ads. he told the washington post that he has six-to-eight in production. trump also said the ads -- for the most part -- are being paid

took home "one million dollars," ----someone else won "two million." the largest powerball ticket was won in 2013. that person took home more than 590 million! now for a story that's positively las vegas. make-a-wish of southern nevada had quite the surprise for a local teen. 18-year-old efrain juardo has been diagnosed with a germ cell tumor. he is a recent graduate of mojave high school where he played goalie for the school's soccer team. juardo thought he was going to play a fifa video game soccer tournament with his friends down at game works. instead he was greeted by volunteers with make-a-wish, who had a special announcemnt. his wish to travel to spain to see his favorite soccer team play had become a reality. "it was, they left me speechless. i didn't know what to say." efrain and his family will head to madrid spain in less than two weeks to see the team play
